MX Fluxbox Screenshots
Re: MX Fluxbox Screenshots
@siamhie , about fbpanel
I didn't know it yet, so I tried it out right away.
An interesting alternative, although the complete "plugin control" (GUI) is displayed for me, but doesn't work. But the plain text config file is manageable, and I can do it manually.
An interesting alternative to Tint2. Not as powerful, but much more manageable and easier to configure.
The only "catch" for me, I'm dogmatic about this :-), is that it uses more RAM.
Although, in absolute terms, it doesn't really matter whether you need ~15mb (tint2) or ~50mb (fbpanel).

Re: MX Fluxbox Screenshots
@wdscharff I was looking up something related to fluxbox and saw screenshots showing off fbpanel and had completely forgotten about this panel. I remember running it back in the day.wdscharff wrote: Fri Aug 29, 2025 12:02 am @siamhie , about fbpanel

I suspect it's due to all the plugins you use in the default settings. I count 20 that are enabled.An interesting alternative to Tint2. Not as powerful, but much more manageable and easier to configure.

*I was looking for those screenshots and just found a forked version listed as a modified 7.2 version for Slackel linux. (https://github.com/djemos/fbpanel)
It was updated 4 months ago. I wonder how it stacks up to the Debian version from 2021 that I posted the link to.

@siamhie
After installing it, I remembered having tried it before.
But it was still a 6.xx version, and since I already had Tint2, I abandoned it :-)

Re: MX Fluxbox Screenshots
I'm playing around with it purely for nostalgic reasons. It was one of the first panels I tried outside of fluxbox's native toolbar.wdscharff wrote: Fri Aug 29, 2025 2:43 am @siamhie

Re: MX Fluxbox Screenshots
Indulged myself and installed jgmenu on this skinny Devuan5 fluxbox setup.
Wanted to enable a places drop-down menu, where jgmenu executes a (bunsenlabs) pipemenu to create the up-to-date 'places' menu.
Calling the 'places-menu' here with a left mouseclick - and a 'recent-files' list with a right mouseclick.
jgmenu can also act as application launcher, dropping down from the topleft toolbar.button (see insert in below screenshot).
Haven't yet configured jgmenu to act as a floating desk-menu --> simply because I'm extremely happy with good ole fluxbox' rootMenu ...

@siamhie Been using fbpanel v7 + fluxbox for a long time on my laptop. Customized with unity desktop (on steroids) in mind.

It's a cool little toolbar.
