MX Service Manager : keep asking root password and exit [Solved]

#1 Post by specialk »

Hi,

Just noticed that when launching MX Service Manager tool, it asks me the admin password (ok), but once the app is opened and by just moving the mouse, I get a dialog box saying that the app needs admin privileges, need to restart the app. I click ok and it closes. So basically, I cannot do anything.
Seems like I have log entries in syslog when this happens.
I thought it was an issue with kernel 6.12, but same with 6.9

(it's been a while since I ran service manager for the last time, but never had this issue)

Thanks for any help.

Re: MX Service Manager : keep asking root password and exit

#2 Post by j2mcgreg »

I can't duplicate that behaviour on any of my machines. Can you try it with another mouse?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I can replicate this also. If I re-open the program, it eventually asks for the password again even if I just move the mouse around the screen.

I can replicate this also. If I re-open the program, it eventually asks for the password again even if I just move the mouse around the screen.
Does that imply that you had to close Service Manager first in order to reopen it?

Reason: typo
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

It's not just the mouse, I mean, any interaction while in the app leads to the dialog box "This app needs admin privileges, close and open again" (while I was first asked for the passwd). Using, the arrows, etc
I tried with other MX Tools requiring a password at opening, no problem.
Here's what is related to this in my syslog :

What version are you all using?

There was an update yesterday I think and a couple of days before that too. I think Adrian added the sudo password functionality because it wasn't showing the info correctly. I have version 25.8 (About) and it's working fine

EDIT: I am using sysv instead of systemd

No. When you launch the program, it initially asks for the password and it then opens.
While idling, a prompt shows up stating administrator privileges are required and selecting OK closes the program.

25.8 (booting systemd)

This is what I see when I start the program in a terminal.

Code: Select all

Same as you (version and terminal message).
