23.6 Installer wont launch - could not load xcb

#1 Post by Squid »

Im trying to install mxlinux 23.6 on my laptop.

When i doubleclick the install on desktop, or the shortcut on the welcome thing, nothing happens.

When i run the "minstall-launcher" it throws an error:

Code: Select all

qt.qpa.plugin: could not load the qt platform plugin xcb in "" even thought it was found.
This application failed to start because no qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalgl, offscreen, vnc, xcb.

Aborted
I have ran:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install mx-installer
I have tried

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install --reinstall libxcb-xinerama0
suggested at https://askubuntu.com/questions/308128/ ... ux-without

Im still on the live usb.

According to the forum rules (please read): Please provide full Quick System Info from the menu, use copy for forum button, no edits.

LiveUSB version is OK if needed.

Have you double checked the downloaded media and the media itself if that is all correct, with the checksums.

What happens when you run the installer with: sudo -E minstall
If that doesn't work, run sudo minstall (i.e. without the "-E").

Some comments:
* suggest to disable nouveau driver for the nvidia card
by one of these ways:
A) with manually added boot parameter

Code: Select all

nouveau.modeset=0
or
B) a more "robust" forcing the kernel to ignore nouveau with boot-parameter

Code: Select all

module_blacklist=nouveau
or
C) select within the LiveGRUB menu -> Advanced -> Boot parameter -> "vcard menu"
which should give a selection menu of found video cards, and may help to load X11 properly
when selecting the intel card not the nvidia device.
One of those methods may help the Live running system to let Qt load properly X11/xcb plugin libraries.

* In addition we have now a fairly new official snapshot MX-23.6_July_x64.iso from July 17., which may help to avoid updating loads of packages since release-
Either at sourcforge or one of the closer ISO mirrors https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-lin ... Snapshots/

I rebooted the computer and re-ran the installer, this time it worked, so it seems something didnt load or failed to load during the previous boot of 23.6 live usb.

I did even check the files on the usb via that built in checker function in the boot menu.
