I wonder how much of all that actually happened.
Case in point: Alice Cooper once gave an interview where he talked about newspaper reports of him doing unmentionable things to both the audience and live animals during a concert. Soon after he got a call from his agent who asked, "Did you really do all those things?" Alice Cooper replied, "No, of course not!" So his agent said, "Then don't tell anyone that. Don't deny it at all. This is huge publicity!"
In his autobiography Ozzy wrote that the band's name is just something they came up with and that they were never into any of that stuff. He described how occultists and followers of black magic and the like would turn up backstage wanting to interview the band but they would always be ignored. If their paths ever did cross the band would always ridicule them. Eventually word got around and they stopped turning up altogether.

I agree with that and hope it's true that some of these things are false and for me the occult stuff isn't really the tipping point, attempting to strangle his wife and decades of drug and alcohol impairment and general selfishness to the extreme are not admirable traits to be looked up to.. I think Alice Cooper is a whole different case, he almost died pretty early in his career and straightened out his life after which he really separated his persona from his true identity and was able to be Alice Cooper onstage and a good husband, father and thoughtful intellectual offstage. I think this was not the case at all for Ozzy although I'm sure later in life once he cleaned up he had a somewhat better perspective. I'm OK with people being fans of things, I am too and I've been a part-time working musician for almost 40 years so I get popular culture. That doesn't change the fact that it is ass-backwards that when a musician or athlete dies and the media trumpets it from the rooftops and everyone is so profoundly sad and when a war veteran, or a career policeman, firefighter, nurse or Aunt Helen who worked every day of her retired life at the local food bank dies nobody cares outside of their family. That really is my point not Ozzy in particular..LU344928 wrote: Fri Jul 25, 2025 9:54 am @AVLinux

Discovered this brand new band about two months ago from one of YouTube's recommendations.
I became subscriber #7 after listening to their first song Out Of My Mind.

This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.
I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Fluxbox is useless. Without my Fluxbox, I am useless.

Re: The amazing music thread
Heard this on the radio recently and thought it was rather good. Couldn't quite remember what the song was.
Turned out to be Michael Buble's (originally Dean Martin's), 'Sway', in Arabic!
Ramy Ayach, who is Lebanese Druze apparently.

Whenever I hear a song in Arabic I always think of Khaled so here's a nice performance from Brazil...AltairIV wrote: Thu Jul 31, 2025 8:55 am Heard this on the radio recently and thought it was rather good. Couldn't quite remember what the song was.
