Re: BTRFS permissions

#11 Post by xh1 »

Thank you both so much. I initially opened Thunar as root and changed the group to read and write and that didn't solve the problem. I didn't realize it until later that I did not change the group name to the user (me). Later I understood that I missed that part and now I have a usable BTRFS SSD, for the first time. I'm very currious to try it out. It probably offers much more than I'm ever going to need, but still.
Thanks again.

Well Done. Now that is bring a good job thru to completion. Least you have better permissions and now use of your drive.
I'll leave it here. in use of /media this is really for portable or " new devices plug-in like feature " not to say in a form you will learn by steps
have you too cold boot one day decide, gee I need to perform an MX-Snapshot and you run up the snapshot tool to create and point it to this "Backups"
it will not be there until you open thunar and click it to auto-mount it for the call to place the snapshot onto this drive. (this might not seem as a value comment, wait for it! it will present a form of security too, yet this is user choice ).

these steps can be learned and enhanced by practice and need. It does provide another form of connect disconnect and not there presence of its Media and access on your system.
It is used when you the owner operator are in need to access. Per its desire to use some of its space, By say creating another directory " say - Downloads" you could point your browser
as to when it downloads. Many to all browsers use ~/Downloads as default you could point this to "/Backups/Downloads" and there now any downloads apps and features you desire to download will drop here.

Consider this a feature Rich, think if later in the future time "something happens" you might have some corruption of sorts and require to use a snapshot image to recover by.

MX is awesome for this feature by just such the Snapshot. Rebooting the Live Flash will bring you back to a process you can all recover your system. ( and then some ).
and then your un-able to login. All that you have will not be lost and still all in /Backups/Downloads so nothing is lost - yet your ~/Home/Downloads/*.* content will be so bookmarks too also lost by what ever error.

Again personal sanitation and process. Simply providing some hints tips and clues to only a form to how you use your space. Learned all over time even with windows long time ago.
adding a 2nd drive D:\ I created another x86_config directory and pointed many new app installs to this local.
so if windows got pop'd I would still have my apps on the D:\ drive. Food for thought.

PS: highly suggest now that you have big space consider take some time to learn the features of 2 choice that MX-Snapshot provides. Protecting user accounts and all . and #2 preserve no accounts used for sharing
might as I have found this 2nd option is best , very easy when restore to recreate all your account personals same yet all your installed Apps are available as you left them so "not" over bloated Snapshot images are slim and trim and contain all the goods
necessary. 2nd tap for good food to nourish your palate by. Cheers. good work.
