The games people play

#1 Post by NickStone »

What games do you play on your PC's and what platform do you play them on?

For myself I like simulators and love playing Silent Hunter III however the downside with this game I cannot get it play on Linux through Steam which is why I keep Windows 10 on the computer in order to play this game. I also like playing Wings of honour (a World War I flight sim) and once again can only play on Windows 10. For games played on Linux (MX) I play the solitaire type games mostly.

I play Freecell when I'm cooking. It takes about 2 minutes to play a game which is the interval at which i need to get up and check what's simmering on the stove or baking in the oven. I start every day by doing a cryptic crossword, Wordlle and Quordle.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I semi-regularly get stuck into a session of "Aaarrgggh! Why isn't this damned script working?"**

**Usually followed by a few rounds of "Bughunter 2: Search for the stupid mistake" ;)

About every single game in the repositories. Look, there are many there. The newest game I'm playing is outside the repositories, which there are many third-party Linux games as well.

Currently playing:

Celeste https://www.celestegame.com/
Pentiment https://pentiment.obsidian.net/
Baba Is You https://www.hempuli.com/baba/

:)

Before that, in recent times:

Kentucky Route Zero and its Interludes https://kentuckyroutezero.com/
Hollow Knight https://www.hollowknight.com/
If On A Winter's Night Four Travelers https://laurahunt.itch.io/if-on-a-winte ... -travelers (free)
Moonring https://dene.itch.io/moonring (free)

All of the above played on an MX Linux derivative except Pentiment.

Out of those, I think Kentucky Route Zero and Pentiment go into my "best of all-time" list, heh. Heck, I guess at least Hollow Knight, too. And Celeste has been really magnificent so far. Wah.

If also including stuff a bit further back chronologically - not by year of release but when I played it - other all-time best works I've had the pleasure to experience have been something like... in no particular order and just off the top of my head instead of being exhaustive:

Chrono Trigger (not on PC unless emulated), Undertale, Disco Elysium, Portal, Dirt Rally (simulation setup, no driving aid), Planescape: Torment, Braid, Street Fighter IV (on a keyboard or a real fightstick + arcade buttons, never on a gamepad :P), To The Moon, Talos Principle, The Stanley Parable, Ultima Underworld, Antichamber, Final Fantasy VII. Most of these not played on Linux, I've kind of made an effort transferring as much of that as I can (enjoying games and other digital art) onto Linux in the last 3-4 years or so.

On one hand the compulsory post of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TingYha7t7Y

On the other hand basically everything works but I never play MP so anticheat is irrelevant to me.... and I cheat shamelessly if the SP game breaks or a bossfight is stupidly difficult.... for that matter I hate bossfights.

gnome-games:
Reversi
AisleRiot Solitaire
Brutal Chess
Mines
Peg-E
Sudoku

Others:
Kmahjongg
GNU Backgammon
Dream Chess

Installed "kdegames" on my KDE install-- lots of stuff to explore there!

EDIT-- Please Ignore the Following! Will open a help topic for this:

Interested in finding more from MXPI (Enabled Repos), but not sure which to install. Example: I see this:

"games-board", which is a meta-package. It lists a ton of games, but the details of this meta-package says the WILL NOT BE INSTALLED. So, how do I get all of them? Here's a pic:

So, how do I get all of those to install?
Hopefully, not one at a time :exclamation:

:crossfingers:
