On UEFI capable computers, you often have to set an Administrators' password before advanced features like changing the boot order or configuring USB ports etc become available/When installing from the live USB to hard drive, I don't recall any BIOS options.
When creating the live USB I couldn't use Rufus or Balena as they no longer support Win 7 and old versions wouldn't work so I downloaded MX to Win 7, burnt it to DVD the used the MX Live USB maker. Again there were no BIOS options presented.
Rather than a partition, I put MX on a separate SSD to the Win 7 SSD as I have two slots. If UEFI is enabled on this computer, Win 7 can't open. I think the issue is that the Win was not installed as EUFI.
Where I go from here I'm not sure.
Thanks

Changing boot order no password needed. I think the only thing I can do now if MBR is not advised for stability is to install a fresh MX when in Win7 to the other SSD and leave out the live USB. Will I get boot options then? Perhaps with two separate SSD's, one on MBR and the other EUFI, rather than a partition on one drive, if EUFI is enabled it might auto switch from one BIOS to the other depending on the SSD selected. I know it won't do that for a partition on a single SSD.

You're new to this forum, so here's the link to the Rules of these forums. Everyone has to abide by them. Do not use swear words, whether directly or masked with other characters.
Keep personal problems off the forums. Let's try to keep peace among the community and for visitors.
Before submitting a post, pause and consider KNIT. Is the post Kind. Necessary, Informed, True.
I did none of the things which you have quoted.
I don't have any problem with forum rules or with polite enforcement of those rules.....rude enforcement of those rules with personal attacks leveled against me are unnecessary and are highly likely to create exactly the situation which we now have and which the rules explicitly try to avoid. In this scenario it was not me who broke the rules but the admin.
Now I have asked that we let this issue go and move on to dealing with the technical issue. It seems that you want to perpetuate this argument, which is counter-productive.
You haven't read the rules or else you would have seen this stated in the first paragraph. I only quoted some of them. "Keep personal problems off the forums."
Personal bickering disrupts the flow of the topic. If this keeps up, this thread will get locked. If you have a problem with a mod or another community member here, first try to resolve it privately (through pm's or emails) yourself

So now you are saying this is all my fault due to "personal problems" that can only be construed as a personal attack and you just broke the rules. I think the personal problems you are looking for are elsewhere. If people can't enforce rules without being rude or making personal attacks and can't bring themselves to drop this argument in favour of not disrupting the flow of the topic, which you just did again, they need to look to themselves. Go ahead lock the topic, it just demonstrates pettiness over a desire to see technical issues solved, which I keep trying to do and you keep interrupting.siamhie wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 11:20 amAltairIV wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 10:32 amsiamhie wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 10:19 am

The bios dictates the partitioning scheme to the operating system so it can be all MBR or all UEFI but you can't mix and match. My advice to you is to upgrade your Win 7 install to Win 10. After Win 10 has been installed, disable Secure Boot and proceed to set up your dual boot with MX. Note that Win 10 only needs Secure Boot to be enabled for its installer to work. It will run fine without it afterwards.Changing boot order no password needed. USB port configuring, never done that.
