MX Install Black Screen Boot - System Choosing Wrong AMD Graphics Card

#1 Post by mx-individual-person »

Hello,

The installation of MX linux on the local hard drive inside my computer, boots to a black screen after entering the encryption password.

I booted to a usb live session, and got a video card selection prompt (screenshot attached), where choice 1 The AMD Navi 33 has the same boot problem, but AMD Phoenix3 allows the USB install to boot.

In the local hard drive install, I don't get this prompt, nor is there any choice in the grub (screenshot attached), that allows me to choose system recovery, or graphics card install, or any of the advanced options that the USB MX install has as choices.

I tried running all the repair options from the USB onto the local hard drive install, and nothing changed.

The actual names of the two graphics cards I have installed are in the attached screenshot.

How do I tell the local install to use the graphics card that will work?

Hello,

Thank you for clarifying that I can use the USB boot for the "Quick System Info". Attached is that information.

How should I best proceed with choosing the correct graphics card?

Thank you very much for your help.

I forgot to mention, everything was working fine for about 6 months, until the day I posted this.

Not sure what changed, to cause the issue.

Hi,

I just wanted to check and make sure I included all the needed information.

Do you think the problem would be resolved if I reinstalled MX completely?

From here:

To disable the dedicated graphics card on a TUXEDO Sirius 16 Gen2 laptop, you need to access the BIOS settings and adjust the "Smart Mux Support" option. Specifically, change it from the default "Hybrid Graphics Mode" to "SAG 1.5". This configuration prioritizes the integrated graphics, effectively disabling the discrete GPU.
I know that this is not exactly what you want, but disabling Hybrid Graphics in favour of a specific card, may be the solution required.

Reason: gross grammar error
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

odd for the graphics card selection there was not a "Vanilla - #3 nouveau native driver which is the selection to pick

had all similar problem on a high end laptop this menu rip's by at blinding speed less lucky to tap it.

believe the concept is nouveau video drivers with MX are pretty standard to meet all requirement, having
the feature of "Video card detection and Driver specific support" as the actual Once all is running and patched up to latest
would then be the better method in process to "Install' Specific video support drivers.
had issue with having "nVidia" Mobile chip on the laptop and rti-4070-ti card in a Box build.

This actually worked well to get me unstuck.

Thank you for the advice.
