Re: Express VPN not installing from MX Package Installer

#4 Post by j2mcgreg »

It looks like the Express VPN GPG key couldn't be accessed. Try running Fix GPG Keys in MX Tools and then try the install again.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks, I tried that here's the results from both running the Fix GPG Keys from MX Tools as well as trying to install Express VPN again from MX Packgage Installer:

Their server must be down. Give it a couple of days and try again.

It's a known issue, they seem to work on a newer version w/o providing a deb-package anymore. The latest deb is still available but not implemented within MXPI,
as it may be considered either remove the MXPI entry completely or potentially adjust with latest available deb-package.
But the issue, even their Download web page, is broken.
Here a way to get "latest" deb-package installed with some manual steps:

Install manually Expressvpn version 3.83.0.2-1_amd64.deb and make it work in SysVinit

Thank you all so much. I appreciate the effort and assistance provided. I'll check out the last link for installing it manually on another day :D.

What can I do to remove any files downloaded to my system for Express VPN from MXPI?

Probably nothing, because the temp directory used was "trap" cleaned up when closed on exit
as indicated by this code snippet:

Code: Select all

tidy_up() {
    rm -r /tmp/tmpdir-expressvpn-keyring.* 2>/dev/null
}
trap tidy_up EXIT

Thank you kindly! Tried but yeah, nothing happens in terminal. I guess there's nothing to remove.
