Can't boot.. what is happening, exactly, since you have a QSI here.

I see PPA in the repos. This can cause a mess.

On newer PCs the ability to 'boot from USB' has to be turned on/enabled. It is off/disabled by default.

This was a security change from 2018 or so that many makers implemented..

Oh indeed.. I remember having to turn that on in the Bios on my dad's laptop.

All us Linux folk need to start hammering on the manufacturers for our rights to install and run any OS we desire without resistance, such as a single windows boot instance on a multi boot setup can change the users preset boot order of a machine

@oldejimmy
What utility did you use to create the USB install drive?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Is the QSI you posted from the machine on which you can't boot the listed ISO ?

Try holding down Del, or Esc button when restarting. Most computers respond to that. Then change the first boot device in the BIOS. Have the USB plugged in when you do this so the computer can see it.

The 6.5 kernel in the QSI is too old to support those Intel graphics:

Code: Select all

7D67 Intel® Graphics Xe-LPG Arrow Lake-S  Kernel must be >= 6.7
Plus chances are that the w-fi will start working with the newer kernel. This can be tested with the XFCE AHS MX 23 edition, which does ship with a much newer kernel.

Kernel 6.5 seems pretty old to include with our otherwise AHS KDE edition, IMHO.

That PPA is for a boot repair tool, which MX ships its own version in MX tools already. An Ubuntu version might be a boot destroyer instead. :frown:
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
