For the record, on MX KDE I got the same message from Dropbox, which could be solved by:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install libappindicator3-1

Update from the installation where I was having the problems (QSI on first post).

I installed the recommended libraries (most, if not all, I already had) and (more importantly I think) I enabled Status Tray Plugin in the panel. After a restart, I got my dropbox icon back, and I am able to access selective sync, which was my main goal.

Still, let's see what happens after May 27. That's the date after which we will see what systems truly support dropbox

Update: May went by, and Dropbox is still working. I think the notification was being overtly conservative regarding the system requirements to run the Dropbox desktop app.

EDIT:

I can confirm that on my Fluxbox install (as of 6-6-2025) I STILL HAVE the Dropbox Desktop Notification Indicator, and IT WORKS! The "Status Tray Plugin" launches the Desktop Dropbox Icon, which works when I choose any of the options, e.g. "Sync", "Recently Changed Files", "Quit", etc.

Regarding previous posts to follow Dropbox's suggestion to do this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install libappindicator3-1
See this:

EDIT:

@radissthor Hopefully, this is all Moot :exclamation:

MEA CULPA :exclamation: :

I spoke too soon!!!

Coming to you live from my MX-Fluxbox install, and...

NO, the Dropbox Systray Icon is NOT WORKING.

I will have to just use the Dropbox CLI tools on my Fluxbox install (only), as outlined in the previous posts.

Sorry for the erroneously optimistic post :bagoverhead:

Point of Order:

It's not my thread.

I am not the OP.

I posted to this thread earlier today to confirm the OP's "non-issue".

However, after my initial post today, I discovered that for me, on my Fluxbox install, it is still an issue. That's when I did the editing and added the "strikeouts".

I apologize if I confused matters :exclamation: :bagoverhead:

As per usual, if I have a continuing problem, I will create my own thread.

So, yeah, I will cease posting to this thread re: my own system problems.

I sincerely apologize for any confusion I may have caused :exclamation:
