Remove LXDE from PI?

#1 Post by chrispop99 »

We currently have LXDE listed in the Popular Applications tab of the Package Installer. LXDE is essentially dead. The majority of the developers moved to LXQt in 2021, the website appears to have been abandoned, and there is little activity on GitHub.

Should the entry for LXDE be removed from the Package Installer?

(Added)

I installed the meta package for LXQt and was able to log in to a session where the limited number of things I tested all worked. Perhaps LXQt should replace the LXDE entry in the PI.

As long as it is available in Debian, I say there is no harm in keeping it in PI

It's still in the Arch repos, and maintained to some limited extent, probably just to keep up with package versions in Arch.

It's still working as a fallback DE on one of my Manjaro XFCE installs. Once a year I log into it just to make sure it's still working :p

Probably wouldn’t hurt to make a lxqt entry though. Just need a package list.

Going to be cleaning house in the popular apps list for mx25 soon.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.
