Workspace Switcher Mouse Wheel and Start Worpspace

#1 Post by mxrd »

When disabling workspace switching via mouse wheel in Workspace Switcher properties,
this has no effect in the following config, so my question:
what do i miss?

btw: starting up a session never starts with the first workspace, even if i had
closed the last session with the first. And it doesn't start with the workspace i
finished the last session (when it's not per random the exakt same workspace, it
usually starts with).
So far i failed to figure out the rule for the workspace number it regularly starts with.

If there were existing some simple remedies, i would highly appreciate this

TIA!

ps: and by the way, another thing, but probably not the switcher:
when working on a workspace 1 with Thunar opened, and in background
it is switching to workspace 2 via wmctrl / script, it looks like that its
tearing Thunar to the other workspace while switching
maybe intentional, not shure

Your lack of a swap partition is cause for concern. There are a lot of folks touting the idea that with enough ram available you can forgo creating a swap partition or file, but the reality is that some of our applications still expect it to be there (even though it may never be used) and can give unpridictable results when swap space is not present. The good news is that you can add a swap file at any time and here’s how:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/ ... -debian-11
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Very Thx for lightning fast reply!
Your are certainly right and i appreciate good news at every time,
and so the other good news is that my free told me, enough mem free for me:
$ free
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 16313984 4369312 9864224 159452 2080448 11478520
Swap: 0 0 0

Luckily and the third good news is, i managed to survive so far some other situations
that recommended swap, and i did survive without swapping, so far.
What of course and obviously is no sufficient predicative cursor for the future.

So hoping on ongoing good luck and to take it sportingly, i would like to test it maybe
with some config options, if possible. Or other ways.
But i confess, its not really super urgent.

And: no swap with enough ram may have maybe another advantage:
is spares ssd, in case of programs feels urged to use swap if they see swap,
even though there is enough free ram.
That's kind of urgend for me, especially because the last days a ssd quitted,
only the controller responds. Not that old, only a few month.

hello mxrd
Toss in this setting with your trials(?)
xfce4-session-logout for future logins checkbox
(latest is last)
uncheck is last saved session. (?)
check is last session.
(?) or whatever your trials do?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

"xfce4-session-logout " very good idea, really. Sorry for late reply.
Little drawback:
I have substituted the logout-dialog to check if other software is still running.
So i have to check how to deal with this circumstances, will take some time.
