Cannot Install Wine

#1 Post by Michael_ »

When trying to install Wine from the MX Package Manager or using this guide:
https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/w ... ian-Ubuntu

I get the following error:

Code: Select all

Fehler traten auf beim Bearbeiten von:
 /tmp/apt-dpkg-install-zeWEdp/192-libasound2-plugins_1.2.7.1-1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
After that the system is kinda corrupted and i cannot install other things aswell.
I also cannot remove it.

I tried reinstalling MX Linux, Updating the System and even upgrading the Kernel with no luck.
I'm using the latest Version of MX Linux KDE.
I tried installing both staging and stable versions of Wine resulting in the same error.

If i install Wine from Discover Store it works BUT that version of wine (8.0) is too old so my application does not work properly. (It works properly in a newer wine version on another computer running another Linux Distro)
Maybe there is a way to install Wine Version 9 instead of 10 ? Maybe that would work?

I really hope you guys know the solution because at this point i don't know what to do anymore.

Please post your QSI. ( MX Menu, Quick System Info, Copy for Forum, Paste here )
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

You may have a corrupted file of libasound2-plugins_1.2.7.1-1_i386.deb in /var/cache/apt/archives/, and apt is hung up not being able to finish installing Wine. Try deleting that file:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/libasound2-plugins_1.2.7.1-1_i386.deb
And then try
To recover from a failed apt installation, try running sudo apt update && sudo apt install -f first. If that doesn't work, consider removing the problematic package, checking for conflicting packages, and/or fixing broken dependencies using sudo dpkg --configure -a or sudo apt --fix-broken install. Rebooting may also help resolve issues.

Yes, that is a nice workstation! I bet it could build a Liquorix kernel really quickly.

I wonder how it would run on a newer AHS kernel to go with the rest of your AHS packages. That's easy to add without removing the standard Debian kernel, though that also needs an update to

The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

I reinstalled MX Linux and then tried installing Wine again and it's the same story.

I don'*t really know what to do from here. Any Ideas?
At this point my only idea would be to install another Distro like Linux Mint and see if it works but i would really prefer to keep using MX Linux KDE if possible.

Try using the MX Linux supported process to install Wine. https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/wine/

Installing using the MX Package Manager was the first thing that i did.
Does not matter if i use the MX Package Manager or the Instructions on the Wine Website. Same Error in both cases.

Installing using the MX Package Manager was the first thing that i did.
Does not matter if i use the MX Package Manager or the Instructions on the Wine Website. Same Error in both cases.
Please respond with your MX Package Installer logs. MX Quick System info - mxpi.log. There may be several install logs above/before the Wine effort. Only that is needed.

Re: Cannot Install Wine

The error you are getting is that the file
/usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/README-arcam-av
is different in the libasound2-plugins:i386 deb than is already on the system already so it doesn't want to overwrite it.
Given that it's just a text file about using a particular piece of hardware, I would delete it and try installing the deb again

Code: Select all

sudo rm /usr/share/doc/libasound2-plugins/README-arcam-av

This was the solution. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
FYI: In Linux Mint (Ubuntu Based) this was not an issue and in QuarkOS (Ubuntu) i had the same problem.

Unfortunately now i have another Wine related problem.
The reason i need wine in the first place is an over 10 year old app named "FL Studio 11.1.1" (First 64bit version and last version before they made major changes)
The Program basically works BUT if i try loading the Demo Project i get a bunch of errors like this:
Image
and also a few audio files are missing.
If i open a new project everything appears to be working fine but loading the demo project causes errors.
If i install linux mint cinnamon (ubuntu based) or QuarkOS (ubuntu based) or Q4OS (Debian based) THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST. So it almost seems to be MX Linux related.

This happens no matter if i install Wine using the MX Package Manager (9.0 Staging), WineHQ Website Instructions (10.0 Stable) or Discover Store (8.0 Stable).

Any ideas what this is and how to solve it?
I know i will have to replace this program with a native Linux App like Bitwig Studio in the future but for now i still need FL 11.

The Demo Version of FL Studio 11.1.1 can be downloaded here: https://archive.org/details/flstudio-11.1.1
