Cannot find any info on installing Brave or any other browser. Firefox on my system is a resource hog and would like to replace it with one that may be faster if there is one. Please advise. Thanks!

Use the Popular Applications tab of the Package Installer to choose from (I think) 11 other browsers.

To help you in the future, the User Manual contains the information you needed to find this, and a lot more.

All browsers are resource hogs especially if you have multiple tabs open and multiple extensions installed, Chrome based browsers are actually heavier in my experience...

Don't think Brave is available for 32bit.

A quick mem consumption check an freshly booted ISO MX-23.6 32bit:
with installed browser from listed entries with MXPI->Pop.Apps->Browser:

Code: Select all

sudo ps_mem.py | grep -E 'firefox|palemoon|chromium|falkon'
112.8 MiB + -209.5 KiB = 112.5 MiB	palemoon
128.4 MiB + 22.2 MiB = 150.5 MiB	falkon
213.4 MiB + 78.4 MiB = 291.8 MiB	firefox-esr (8)
129.0 MiB + 179.1 MiB = 308.1 MiB	chromium (9)
267.5 MiB + 69.0 MiB = 336.6 MiB	firefox-bin (9)

and on a 64bit MX installation, manually additionally installed mullvad-browser:

Code: Select all

sudo ps_mem.py | grep -iE 'librewolf|firefox|mullvadbrowser|palemoon|chromium'
145.0 MiB + 1.2 MiB = 146.2 MiB	palemoon
277.1 MiB + 81.3 MiB = 358.4 MiB	mullvadbrowser.real (8)
285.7 MiB + 91.7 MiB = 377.4 MiB	firefox-esr (8)
232.5 MiB + 222.2 MiB = 454.7 MiB	chromium (10)
376.0 MiB + 102.8 MiB = 478.8 MiB	firefox-bin (9)
401.5 MiB + 100.6 MiB = 502.1 MiB	librewolf (9)
All with empty or nearly empty start/blank page.Palemoon therefore seems to use less memory than most others.
I missed to install falkon on 64bit, though.

Brave browser is such a resource hog. When I use the Bleachbit app after browsing the internet, I notice that if I use Brave browser, it has about 3 to 4 times more cache to clean that Firefox. I tried other browsers, but Firefox seems to work best with just about all websites. I have used Seamonkey, Icecat, Opera, Vivaldi, Libre Wolf, etc, etc. All those other browsers seem to have some quirk that I can't log into some sites. But Firefox always works. ( knock on wood )

brave is indeed not available for 32bit systems,

but I wonder, why u use a 32bit os with a 64bit grafic card ...

I read about brave in this forum some time ago.
Since then, I replaced firefox and I the only usecase where I stil use firefox is watching videos in fullscreen.
Videoplayer of brave does not support a video window resized to 3 monitors.

respect to resource hog:
When I start brave, it tells me, that it saved me 6,6 GB downloading rubbish and saved me 3,5 hours waiting for bull.sh.it ...

You can get brave from: https://brave.com/linux/

P.S.: I replaced the browser of my mobile phone and use brave too

Better not believe that info. When using Brave use these settings https://www.privacyguides.org/en/deskto ... ers/#brave and UBO and a whole lot of crap wont be downloaded.
And https://www.kuketz-blog.de/einstellungen/#brave-desktop

UBO https://www.privacyguides.org/en/browse ... ock-origin

For FF https://www.privacyguides.org/en/deskto ... s/#firefox
https://www.kuketz-blog.de/brave-und-fi ... er-teil-2/

https://www.deepl.com/en/translator

Better not use Bleachbit.

Modern lite browser is Firefox ESR 115. i think
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/desktop-esr/

This CPU spec better stay with MX 21.x supported until June 2026
