Has something happened to Synaptic?

#1 Post by MikeR »

synaptic from menu does not respond

/usr/bin/synaptic-pkexec requests a password and then exits with an error:

Code: Select all

 /usr/bin/synaptic-pkexec
==== AUTHENTICATING FOR com.ubuntu.pkexec.synaptic ====
Authentication is required to run the Synaptic Package Manager
Authenticating as: ,,,972-50-9908337 (mike)
Password: # <--- entered my password here
polkit-agent-helper-1: pam_authenticate failed: Authentication failure
==== AUTHENTICATION FAILED ====
Error executing command as another user: Not authorized

This incident has been reported.
[10]   Done                    sudo /usr/bin/synaptic-pkexec
from terminal

Code: Select all

$ sudo synaptic
[sudo] password for mike
Seems to start OK

So there is a workaround, but not as it should be.

My system:

Code: Select all

not synaptic. polickykit. for some reason your authentication agent is either not running, disconnected from dbus, or has crashed.

in Xfce, this can sometimes happen with a login/logout cycle, especially a fast one. I have no idea about gnome.
