opensnitch (and opensnitch-ui) is a great application in the Debian repos if you want to know what connections your computer makes. You can filter by executable, port, process etc. I don't understand everything it can do, but it is easy to use. It's easy to block applications you don't want to connect to the Internet.Pretty Vacant wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 7:19 am We are wondering what kind of connections do MX-23.6_x64 Libretto and bundled apps make by default? And where to find them?
By default not many connections in MX-23. Using Cinnamon there was an executable wanting to connect to a weather service. This was the only external connection during this session that came from the OS. Apart from that, Opensnitch prompted me when I wanted to play an Internet stream in VLC and when I started Chrome another permission prompt came up. You can whitelist applications if you get tired of giving permission to your browser to connect to the Internet.
If someone wants an easy to use firewall, this is it. Probably works best with systemd. The version in Debian repos might work pretty well with SysVinit, but I haven't tested.
