Configure MX23 on old laptop
Configure MX23 on old laptop
I am using hp pavilon dv7 laptop and I must say MX19 Linux Patito Feo version was much quicker. This version is pretty slow on my old laptop.
I think it is doing memory test before loading kernel and GUI. Do you have any tips how to make my MX Linux faster on old laptop?
I like XFCE GUI btw.

We are going to need your computer’s complete profile before we can proceed, so you need to post the output from the QSI utility. The Quick System Info (QSI) utility is located in MX Tools and its output is automatically formatted for use here in the forum. Run the QSI utility, click “Copy for Forum” at the bottom and then just paste it here in your thread.

simple answer, try antiX.
specifically for this reason, recently anticapitalista made antiX xfce free of systemd.
wo you will certainly experience a faster system with antiX

antiX does not currently offer an Xfce edition. There are unofficial Xfce offerings you might find on the antiX forum if you know where to look, but the antiX download page still offers all the same DEs (IceWM, fluxbox, jwm and herbstluftwm) it used to offer.MrPythoner wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 6:57 am simple answer, try antiX.

This is very much a do-it-yourself antiX+Xfce configuration. You still won't get Xfce on antiX out of the box and it is misleading to imply that Xfce on antiX is a good equivalent to someone who's just installed MX-23.Germ wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:17 am I didn't go through the whole thread but have a look here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic ... ost-164844

I hope mx team gets some inspiration from what antiX folks are doing .DukeComposed wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:41 amThis is very much a do-it-yourself antiX+Xfce configuration. antiX leaves minimum memory footprint, and purging systemd, elogind, and *kit stuff is very useful to have a more reliable and speedy system .
if mx experts contribute in creating Xfce antiX, we will have future in our hands .

The roots of MX Linux are antiX plus Xfce, so to do what you suggest would be reinventing the wheel.MrPythoner wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 5:58 pmI hope mx team gets some inspiration from what antiX folks are doing .DukeComposed wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:41 amThis is very much a do-it-yourself antiX+Xfce configuration. antiX is lighter than MX Linux partly because it offer a choice of window managers. Xfce is a desktop environment and will always have a bigger footprint, no matter what it's installed on top of.
