annoying repeat of "cant open app GEANY IDE"

#1 Post by AA BB »

I had this problem once before.
The problem:
when I click the icon on the FluxBox dock, the app window does not open, instead icon drops down to the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and when I click the app icon on the task bar, it terminates the app...effectively rendering the app useless

To solve it previously, I renamed the .config file and started GEANY in a terminal. Now that prior solution no longer works

Any ideas on solving this problem by other than re-installing GEANY ???

QSI please.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

PS I replaced the geany.conf file with a .conf file from another computer where GEANY is working OK... but it still does not fix the problem

When starting geany from a terminal does it show any error message ?
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

From here:

and here:

Your Lite On SSD is twelve years old and likely needs to be replaced.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

to quote myself from the last time
Melber wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 3:34 pm Is it maybe on another workspace?
press ctrl+alt or roll mouse wheel to cycle through workspaces.

or try ctrl+0 to maximize the window
Can you confirm neither of these helps?

What settings are listed in the ~/.fluxbox/apps under [app] (class=Geany) ?

I experienced such odd behavior one or two times before. Found by chance that the offending window had moved in vertical direction to another workspace...
Each time I could find the window-titlebar behind the toolbar. Simply hiding the running tint2 panel gave access to moving the window back again.
Not sure if that is the case with you, but hey: check it out.

In any way, I've always disabled this strange vertical-workspace warping behavior, by editing its setting in ~/.fluxbox/init to false :

Code: Select all

session.screen0.workspacewarpingvertical:	false
Sony Vaio VPCF23P (2011), Intel Core i7-2670, 6gb RAM, 240gb SSD, MX-Linux 23 based Fluxbox v/1.3.7+
Lenovo Thinkpad L560 (2016), Intel Core i5-6200, 16gb RAM, 240gb SSD, Devuan Daedalus based Fluxbox v/1.3.7+

" Is it maybe on another workspace? press ctrl+alt or roll mouse wheel to cycle through workspaces. or try ctrl+0 to maximize the window

" What settings are listed in the ~/.fluxbox/apps under [app] (class=Geany) ? "

[Position] (UPPERLEFT) {31% 100%}
[Close] {yes}

"session.screen0.workspacewarpingvertical: false " ... FALSE ismy current setting
