Network printers get "lost" every few days. IPV6 problem?

#1 Post by wbrells »

For a long time I've been having a problem with all my network printers getting "lost" every few days. When that happens Printer Properties states that the printers cannot be found. The ONLY way I have found to recover is to reboot my WiFi router - obviously not an ideal solution! Rebooting CUPS and even my computer doesn't seem to work... The next time this happens I'll run lpstat -p and avahi-browse --all and see what they show, but I'm suspicious that IPV6 may be causing problems.

Is there a command to disable IPV6 on MX Linux systems that don't use sysctl?

Thanks,
Wayne

Please post your QSI. ( MX Menu, Quick System Info, Copy for Forum, Paste here )

Yes, in network manager you can disable ipv6
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

That seems like a big red flag.

Do you have another wifi router you can use for a week to see if the router is the problem?

Set your network printers to static IP addresses. That way once setup, they won't change IP and get lost.

For many years I have setup network printers using LPD, with the IP address in the format: lpd://192.168.1.206/lp although I have recently setup two network printers using ipp (i.e. PP Everywhere).

At least one of the problem printers has a fixed IP address. I'll check the other 3 and make sure they do also. However, even the fixed IP printer gets "lost" along with the others... These printers do NOT get lost on Windows.

I recently set up a system running Zorin 17.3. The next time the printers get "lost" under MX Linux I'll check the Zorin system to see if they can be seen.

Below is the QSI:
