MX 23.5 xfce - How to translate TigerVNC 1.14.0 flatpak, please?

#1 Post by madmax25 »

To be able to access my Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB) with Bookworm 64bit, which is running headlessly (without a TV as a monitor), I installed TigerVNC on my MX 23.5 xfce.
First, I used version 1.12.0 from the active repo of the MXPI, but I got a message about a certificate mismatch each time, right before entering my login data.
The connection does work, but I wanted to avoid that message, so I tried a .deb of TigerVNC 1.14.0, but that one refused to be installed,
because of some version issues of some of the required dependencies.

So I installed the Flatpak version of TigerVNC 1.14.0.
It does work fine and without the mismatch message, but I wonder, is there any way to translate it into another language than English, please?

Or could you, the MX developers, perhaps release a non-flatpak update of TigerVNC to 1.14.0 (without the certificate issue), please?

Btw. let me add, I'm using TigerVNC because my Raspberry Pi 5 is running on Wayland.

Supposedly TigerVNC builds their flatpak. you could try filing an issue here if the flatpak doesn't have translations set up. You might also check your locale settings to make sure they are valid.

There are only deb's and the source code, but no flatpak there.
I thought that maybe you could add the latest non-flatpak version (see the 1st one here, please) of TigerVNC (which is 1.15.0) to the MXPI, because I guess, the non-flatpak versions of TigerVNC are more likely to contain translation files.
I already tried the .deb from Sourceforge, but as I said about the 1.14.0, the 1.15.0 also refuses to be installed because of some dependency issues.

Have you tried this suggestion?

I will try as soon as the latest non-flatpak version of TigerVNC is in the MXPI.
