That mirror seems to have stopped doing any updates a couple of years ago, that's why the packages are old. Try switching to another with MX Repo Manager.

wow thank you i never suspected. probably there is a yiddish word for it too :P thanks for your tips. changing the mirrors and updating seems to have fixed this. how does one check if the mirror(s) one has chosen are keeping up to the latest updates?

not 100% on the right Syntax but sudo apt full-grade firefox -y

MX performed updates upgrades in line with the need to distribute as time requires. Becomes a learning curve when one performs self initiate.
