ceejayemm, I reread the post you linked to then reread the posts in the kde.bugs archive and the kde,bugs.org discussion. From there I followed this link https://github.com/nix-community/home-m ... ssues/4941 and read that. I did not try the solution posted there. Most of it is above my head but it seems that other posters agree that it has something to do with mime? and possibly javascript and ecmascript. Again all above my understanding. I followed you instructions, although I used the file manager as I am not that comfortable with the command line. The problem has gone away for now, Thanks

Glad you have it resolved! The issue with this method of a fix is that you are blowing out all of the mime connections that you have built, not JUST the one for json files. So, certain apps are not going to work properly or be chosen when you run into a specific file type. (Say mp4 or mpg based upon an editor or specific player you have chosen etc.)

I would suggest when you have time, to put one file back at a time and see which one breaks if, then go after that specific file to see what is in there and causing this.

I am marking this post as resolved. But, I will try some of the experiments you mentioned and see if I can discover anything useful.

Update: I took your suggestion and started adding files back one at a time. It seems that the mime.cache file is causing the problem. When I restore it the problem returns, when I change its name to mime.cache.bak the issue disappears. I opened the file in KWrite but I don't know how to identify the problem. I am going to leave the file as mime.cache.bak and see how it goes.

Thanks again CharlesV

AH there it is! The system should create a new mime.cache file, and now that all your mime files are cleaned up ... you should be good to go.

Thanks for checking and reporting back too!
