AVL 23 / Enlightenment 0.27: how to set X cursor theme?

#1 Post by seriousness »

Hi there,

after upgrading Enlightenment I started with a completely fresh configuration. My cursor theme Breeze_Snow is still used, but I can't find the applet where this can be set.
I guess that in 0.25 this could be done in Settings --> Look --> Application Theme, but it's no longer there.
I found a file where it is set:

Code: Select all

cat ~/.icons/default/index.theme
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=Breeze_Snow
Any hints how this can be done with a GUI?

Hi,

It appears to have moved to Settings Panel-->Input-->Mouse-->Cursor tab

Hi Glen,

that setting decides if Enlightenment uses its own or the X cursor theme.

What I am missing is the GUI to change the X cursor theme, e.g. from DMZ-White to Breeze_Snow.

Oh I see... sorry.

I will look on my laptop later which still has 0.25.4 on it and see what I can find.

I think you could control this (without a GUI) by editing /home/DevAVL/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini and change the cursor in the 'gtk-cursor-theme-name=' line, at least for GTK3 apps..

Code: Select all

[Settings]
gtk-theme-name=Skeuos-FLAT_DEFAULT-Dark
gtk-icon-theme-name=Papirus-mxbluedark
gtk-font-name=Cantarell 11
gtk-cursor-theme-name=DMZ-white
gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS
gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_LARGE_TOOLBAR
gtk-button-images=1
gtk-menu-images=1
gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
gtk-xft-antialias=1
gtk-xft-hinting=1
gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull

@seriousness

Actually I don't see an actual change to this in Enlightenment 0.25.4 vs. 0.27, there is no E GUI to change mouse cursor that I know of, try editing the settings.ini file I mentioned.

The funny thing is that I have

Code: Select all

gtk-cursor-theme-name=DMZ-white
in my settings.ini, but Breeze_Snow is actually used. So ~/.icons/default/index.theme seems to override it.

I am 100% sure that I didn't set this manually...

If you still have your AVL 23.2 ISO you could live boot and investigate it pre-update. I don't recall anything being in Enlightenment to select specific mouse themes, but I always just run with E's cursor and let GTK stuff run with DMZ-White. Did you perhaps try another DE with E that may have set it graphically?

Open Whisker Menu/MXTools/Tweak/Theme then choose the Cursor you have available. If Enllghtenment is installed it should be there.
