[SOLVED] Cannot Suspend or Hibernate - Encrypted Home on MX 23.5

#1 Post by cancunia »

I have created separate root (/) & home (/home) partitions on a 1TB SSD, the /home was encrypted during installation.
I created a 10GB swap file on the root partition during installation.
I created a separate root partition and left it un-encrypted so that the swap file would not be encrypted in case it caused performance issues.
I enabled Hibernation during the install too.

Now, when I try either Suspend or Hibernate, the screen goes blank then a few seconds later, goes to the log in screen. Just the same as when resuming.
I also created a bigger swapfile of 20GB vs the original 10GB although there's only 4GB of memory, just in case there was not enough swap space but it's made no difference. The new swapfile has a different name from the original /swap/swap & now the Hibernate option does not appear when I press the power icon on the taskbar, so I'm assuming that Hibernate is somehow linked to a specific swapfile.

Re: Cannot Suspend or Hibernate - Encrypted Home on MX 23.5

1st start would be to check /etc/fstab and look bottom last statement should be if correctly set by install as indicated. /swap/swap swap swap defaults 0 0

there are procedures to turn on swap sudo swapon with swapoff check the manpages. as a 2nd lead to discovery why it may not be operating.

free is another very quick any time cmdline tool in a terminal shell to run ..
open xfce-terminal - tap the anykey - enterkey same thing. couple times can type clear to return top left of its own window
type free

try even sudo free ; some do have difference when run as user and some as sudo

[SOLVED] Cannot Suspend or Hibernate - Encrypted Home on MX 23.5  [Solved]

#3 Post by cancunia »

Thanks for the reply above, my SWAP files were actually working, but the problem seems to be related to ACPI /LID0
Although it is shown in the Quick System Info, I did not mention in plain text that I'm using a MacBook Air where 'instant resume from suspend' is not a new problem on Macs running Linux.

I thought at first this was because I had encrypted the /home partition, but I get exactly the same problem with a fresh install & no encryption.

I've marked this SOLVED and will open a new thread about disabling LID0 within ACPI
