Filtering based upon the hosts file, provides a layer that happens and doesnt allow the web browser to even GO to some websites.

UBO filters AT the website.
uBlock Origin also offers you the option to use a hosts file.

You are correct, but again that is once you are IN the webbrowser - the hosts file is at the networking level and shuts down at the system level.

Or check yer router. Many routers will accept a list of domains (basically a lengthy hosts file) and then block all accesses to these domains... the big advantage being that then ALL devices (PCs, smartphones, tablets, Fire sticks etc) connecting to the router are covered. I have two routers, both run the Asuswrt-Merlin firmware which includes dnsmasq, so I simply create (and update) the list as I see fit, copy it to the router and and
Frugal installs on Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Ryzen 5 4650U/24GB * HP Pavilion Ryzen 3 3300U/16GB * Toshiba R950 i5-3340M/12GB
I have a reservation... What do you mean it's not in the COMPUTER!

Aye +1 on the router. I have found most people dont have that ability but where I use pfSense routers there Addblock is very good (not as good ublock origin, but very good.) And like you say, that blocks ads for tv's, tablet, phones etc.)

Hello
Well, i don't have the enough knowledge of being an advanced linux users, but the when i send the advert-block.sh(the adblock app) to the AI, it tells me it uses steven black's scripts, not antix adblock-scripts
which it daily maintained and on development, i wasn't really sure so i go to check the file myself and i discovered it uses steven black's host files, so it doesn't really required to add another adblock with it.

only if you want another extra layer for privacy.

I hope this helps, sorry if i made any mistakes  .

"... the AI, it tells me it uses steven black's scripts, not antix adblock-scripts"

But can be too restrictive than block-advert.sh ? (I have not tried yet)
