Chrome won't automatically update - solved

#1 Post by oliverjames »

My first thought was to reinstall it from the MX Package Installer, but that didn't resolve the issue. The version shown in synaptic is 132.0.6834.159-1.
I reinstall it from the official Chrome download but the out of date message remains, and the about chrome info gives Version 118.0.5993.117 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)

Can someone explain what the issue is please?

Since I got a Chrome update two days ago, I think that your main repo may not be in sync and that you should use Repo Manager in MX Tools to switch to a new one. Your profile locates you in France and the closest one to you that we own and operate is Alblasserdam, The Netherlands. After you have made the switch, try to update again.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thank you, I'll switch and see if that resolves the issue.

if the correct version is showing up in synaptic, then some error must be preventing installation.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install google-chrome-stable
may have some text output that sheds some light.

lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4 - MX-23
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Running that script gives:

Code: Select all

$ sudo apt install google-chrome-stable
[sudo] password for richard:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
google-chrome-stable is already the newest version (132.0.6834.159-1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
A bit perplexed!

seems like you got it installed already.

do you possibly also have a flatpak installed? that updates separately, and not automatically.

Thank you, you hit the nail on the head, actually I had a repo version installed, and the flatpack. Now I've uninstalled the latter and all is well. 9_9
