Scan withe Epsonscan2

#1 Post by Lieve BE »

Hi, I hope somone can help me...

The Canon printer and scanner both work fine in MX-Linux KDE whiteout install errors.
I also have an Epson photo scanner Perfection V600 Photo, that I scan my analoge negative films with, but I can't get it to work with epson2 (in XFCE that worked fine before).
I have already restarted the PC, but this did not help. I also have plugged the USB cable in another port. Nothing helped.
The scanner is found, but there is something wrong with the connection. The USB cable is plugged in and the scanner is also on, no errors are shown on the scanner.

I havent tried to use my Epson V500 Pro scanner in KDE, but I had the *exact* same issue with it in xfce.

You can / should install / reinstall the Epson driver for it from here
https://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/sear ... archModule

And once installed reboot and it should show up in the scanning.

I have more instructions here too if you need them. (It is based on the EcoTank printers / scanners.. but it also helps with all epson products.):

Thanks for your instructions, but it's too complicated for me at the moment.
I'll try again later.
The user groups are already set correctly.
I've been working on this for hours, nothing works. With XFCE it worked immediately, without any puzzling.

My instructions are more for printers with scanners, I think there are really only two things you need to do for your V600

1) Find the driver (looks like there are two, I would choose the all in one package - second one) and Download it
2) Install if and then reboot.

I had done these steps.
Maybe I can just delete everything and start over.

At "next" I get this, while everything is plugged in.

I'll figure it out later :-)

Can you start the program using the terminal and post any output that pops up?

also two commands in a terminal and their results might show the issue:

Code: Select all

lsusb

and then

Code: Select all

scanimage -L

Two things come to mind.
1) Have a look at /etc/sane.d/epson2.conf
There may be something you can do with that
and
2) check out the package sane-airscan. It's specifically designed for printers and MFC's that have driverless printing built in, and from what I read, yours as the ability. Most folk would be using this app for networked devices, but I have seen small extras like this make a difference beyond network connected devices.
https://github.com/alexpevzner/sane-airscan
Scroll down a bit to the readme section and take a moment to digest what it's saying. Make sure you read through to the Compatibility section where it mentions ipp-over-usb
If you're willing to give this a crack, you'll need to install both sane-airscan and ipp-usb, both are in the regular repos.

EDIT - sorry, I had the wrong tab open, yours may not be driverless.

* EDIT: Now working again - please see my post further down.
I have a V370 and was using Epsonscan2 successfully until a few updates ago; sadly I didn't notice exactly which update.
But it stopped being able to communicate with the scanner properly, even though it detected it.

I tried the Flatpak (latest version) - that works except that I can't get it to follow the GTK theme no matter what I do.

I tried uninstalling the Flatpak and downloading and installing latest version from the Epson site - but so far that is not working;
In fact it is worse than the old version.
So I guess something in one of the recent updates broke compatibility.

I remember going thru something like this and found Xsane a bit clunky but workable
