How to know if a New Nvidia Graphics Card (2050) (in Discreet Mode or by Primus) is "Activated" & Work "Automatically" ?

Help with the version of MX KDE officially released by the Development Team.

How to know if a New Nvidia Graphics Card (2050) (in Discreet Mode or by Primus) is "Activated" & Work "Automatically" ?

#1 Post by Emilio-Fr »

Hello All...
* I wish you an very "Happy New Year"....

I would like to find some help to know if a recent Nvidia Graphics Card (2050 Notebook) works correctly
and if it is actually "Enabled",
and if applications, (in Discreet Mode or by Primus), especially multimedia and HDMI outputs will pass their signals
directly through the Nvidia graphics card, and not through the Intel one ?

I am on a MSI Laptop Katana 17 B17UCXK
with recent Nvidia card GeForce RTX 2050
- with actually the 565.57 Nvidia Driver, serie "New Features"...
and an Intel 13th Gen Intel Core i7 x16 -13620H processor...

* - Here some basics information about my system =
Operating System: MX Linux 23
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.12.7-2-liquorix-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-13620H
Memory: 15.3 Gio of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Graphics
Manufacturer: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
Product Name: Katana 17 B13UCXK
System Version: REV:1.0

** Below you will find the different information about my Laptop, about my configuration,
and about the Mx Linux 23.4 KDE AHS system,
that you will find in the different command outputs (Konsole - Kde)
and in the "quick system information"...

* Output "inxi -G" =

* - Here, I tell you about different steps and problems that I recently encountered
because of a bug or other problem with the Nvidia 560 Driver,
and the installation or updates of new Kernels like 6.12.7.2 64,
until I decided to Uninstall it, and Reinstall the Nvidia 565.57 Driver,
which allowed me to solve all of these problems for the moment...

* - With some of my questions :

Having just solved All the installation error problems of the Kernels series 6.12.7.2, etc.,
after uninstalling the Nvidia 560 Driver, and after Reboot and Cleaning,
installing the Driver 565.57...
- Then following that, having found again the checkbox in "Mx Packages Installer"
for the installation of the package: "Liquorix 64 Bit (ahs updates packages)",
and having (just to see if all works and Test it all) installed the various
"Ahs" kernels = 6.10.11 64 ahs; 6.11.9 64 ahs; 6.12.6 64 ahs,
plus the famous and problematic (Before Installation New Driver 565),
the 6.12.7.2 64 Kernel, (which apparently is not in the "Ahs" category)...
And now, all is ok !...

- * And after install of the differents kernels, i do a reboot,
and all the problems of installing Kernels, and different packages,
including in "Discover" (Kde), and by the konsole, have all been solved...
Yeaahhh.... 😎🌍🦋✨✨✨

* - Now, just to do a real Test, i'm started with the problematic "Kernel 6.12.7.2 64",
and everything seems to be working fine for now... 👍😎

On the other hand "inxi -G" lists the 2 Graphic Cards : Intel Graphics Cards (in 1)
and Nvidia Graphics Card (in 2)...
* But in my case, and as for using the Nvidia Driver 565.57,
I tried the 2 commands indicated in the article shared by Andy Lobb (Mx FB Group),
and for advice about Primus, Bumblebee & Optirun,
but none of these solutions are installed on my system...

- * But there, I don't know what command to run to know if the Nvidia Graphic card
is in service and if the applications (Multimedia, Audio & Video) go through it ?
Afterwards, maybe I am directly and already in "Discreet Mode",
but how can I know that, please ?
- Maybe, I can also install "Primus" (for the new Nvidia drivers,
and for info : Optirun and Bumblebee being obsolete for these New Drivers 560 serie...),
but I'm afraid that it won't work, and that it risks breaking everything (???)...

* What commands for the Konsole, and what Solution-s to control and see all this, please ?
Tanks for Help of anyone.... 😉😎🌍

Thanks you very much for All Your Help.... ;)

Can you edit your text to reduce the amount of bolding, and also use the normal width of a screen instead of hard enters forcing a narrow screen, because this is very uncomfortable to read. Thank you

Hello...
Sorry, but I'm on a 17" inch Laptop, and I don't know how to reduce the size of the reading window of topics and or messages...
I changed some things, but having some visual problems, and the Bold is easier to read for me, including to underline/emphasize what I want to say...

I removed some bolding, but it doesn't really show up right away...

I can't find what you recommend, apart the "Control" key, and how do you do that when you edit and you're inside the topic ?...
I don't see any settings for that!...

Hello...
Who is "OP", please ?... And, what do you mean by that, please ?
To understand better or well, who are you talking about in your remark, the Administrator who came to ask me to change certain things,
or about me for the presentation that I tried to make so that it was as clear and effective as possible ?
Tanks you...
