Hi, one way to test if the problem is with my computer is to install a vpn from another vpn provider.
I did and the new vpn app works fine. On top of this it has a GUI to select server and other settings,
all this directly in MX Linux.
For me that topic is closed. If someone is asking I will identify the new vpn provider.
Have a good day.
ExpressVPN - Unable to sign in. Please check your connection and try again.

It's always a good attitude to share what works out of the box with MX Linux, perhaps also good to mention whether
it works with both init's (systemd and sysVinit).
Re: ExpressVPN - Unable to sign in. Please check your connection and try again.
Hi, The new vpn app is Proton VPN. There is a specific .deb install file for MX Linux. For now it works fine. A "Proton VPN" item has appeared in the "Internet" folder menu. This is a GUI to select server and other settings, all this directly in MX Linux.
I don't have any relation, business or otherwise, with Proton VPN.
Thanks to all for their help and have a good day.

Is it working with systemd and/or sysVinit?
I found several installation methods for it and the instructions did not lead to all of them, including the MX Linux method - although the MX Linux deb install does seem specific and therefore the correct one. I initially received many frequent errors maybe close to a year ago now, I've received dozens of upgrades since then and it has gotten MUCH BETTER although yesterday a password manager stated that I could login from Germany and it wasn't set to Germany.
Just FYI.

Hi, all the install procedure and first tests of Proton VPN were done under systemd.
Next time I reboot the computer I could try to use Proton VPN under sysVinit
but I won't reboot just to test Proton VPN/sysVinit.
Proton VPN was installed from their install .deb file downloaded from their website.
I used Proton VPN for a few days now and everything goes as supposed to.
