Wrong language module

#1 Post by Lieve BE »

Hi,
The installation of MX Linux went well on my desktop in dual boot with Windows.
I did make a litle mistake during the installation by installing a language module (Dutch).
Now I don't think that's very nice, because there are duplicates, such as in the folders in the /home folder. For example, you have the folder "Images" next to the folder "Pictures" or "Documenten" next "Documents".
So I expect to encounter more errors.
Can I still adjust this and how?

Normally when you change it to another language on login screen (using the icon on top panel) it asks whether the folder names will be translated, too or not ...

I don't remember if I was asked this.
The funny thing is that I deleted those English folders and they were there again when I started up again.
More strange things have appeared in the last few days, such as entering the demo password when I start Chromium (and a few other programs that I ran in the demo). I do remember being asked to take the settings from the demo with me to the new installation and that may not have been a good idea.
I'm probably going to reinstall, I don't like this fiddling and messing around.

Was this an installation done with of snapshot ISO you made as personal snapshot?
B/c that would explain why you got a mixture of demo user and other symptomps.
The easiest way, to get a clean locale/language install, would be to select locale/language on the LiveBoot menu,
from a fresh LiveISO.
The Livesystem will then adjust all to the chosen language / including standard folder names.
Otherwise change in between the locale/language has to be done properly,
so the system will create the new standard folders with translated names.
Which would after new reboot / logout-out/ login allow the remove the folder with the old names.
