Cannot print in color on WLAN printer

#1 Post by Spock »

Greetings, all, please be patient as this is my first post.

I have an older laptop with MX Linux 23.4 Libretto. The printer is on the home wifi, a Brother MFC J470DW. It prints color fine, wirelessly, from Windows. I got the Linux driver from the Brother website
(https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloa ... &type3=625)
There was an option for deb or rpm, I chose deb.
I also tried the terminal command #lpadmin -p Brother -E -v ipp://[PRINTER IP ADDRESS]/ipp -m everywhere# as suggested here - https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 175692181/. All it did was create a clone of the printer in the printer settings.
I also looked at the manual and the wiki, but my problem doesn't come up. No matter what setting I change, it just prints black and white.
I also did a search of this forum. There were 18 pages of hits, but none seemed relevant.
I was trying to print from Nomacs, but Feh and Imagemagick didn't work either.
There were no errors or error messages, and I now have about 20 copies of a b/w photo of my daughter with my grandson.
I appreciate any help you can provide.

I should have specified that I restarted the laptop.
Also, something that was part of the printer driver setup, that I thought was something else, went wrong. It is called pnopaste. At a certain point during the install, it said 'enter password for confirmation' or words to that effect. I assumed this was the root or user account password. They are the same, only 4 digits, so I know I typed it correctly at least one of the times I tried it. Anyhow, that wasn't what it was looking for. So if that is why the whole thing failed, I am at a loss.

Welcome in!

if you go to Print Settings in the MX Menu, then right click on the printer and left click on properties.
Go down to Printer Options on the left.. Do you have Print Color Mode set to Color on the right ?

If not, then choose Color, click apply and then try printing again.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Thanks. I should have mentioned I already tried that - no dice.
