Bluetooth not Working

#1 Post by Josip »

Hello, i have problems with Bluetooth on MX Linux 23.4 AHS.
So i plugged in my Bluetooth Adapter into one of USB slots, booted up my PC, then it asked me do i want to turn on bluetooth i clicked yes and after couple of seconds it crashed and icon dissapeared from panel. I tried starting Blueman Manager and it just keeps crashing same with Bluetooth adapters, however if i try and start Blueman Manager through terminal it says no adapters were found when i clearly have one plugged in.
Also i tested it in default Debian kernel, Blueman Manager did start and bluetooth but when scanning it can't find anything. (Note: I am dual booting windows and mx linux with 2 separate drives, and using Liqourix latest kernel)

From here:
https://linux-bluetooth.vger.kernel.nar ... ity-issues
The gist is that you should source out a Linux compatible Bluetooth adapter.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Would an adapter like TP-Link UB500 work with linux? I see some people say it works with linux and some say it doesn't

Hi Josip,
also here I have a problem with Bluetooth with Kernel 6.11 with another distro. Can you check it with kernel 6.10?

that device has a page in the linux hardware database: https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:1131-1004

this probe shows it working with a system running debian 12 and a 6.1 kernel: https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=f17a5b4720

this device also seems to have a page in the hardware database that looks like it should work: https://linux-hardware.org/?id=usb:2357-0604

with either device you could try unplugging, running

Code: Select all

sudo dmesg -W
then plugging it back in to see if there are any error or warning messages. if you boot with systemd like you did when posting your system info, you could also try unplugging and running

Code: Select all

journalctl -f
before plugging back in.

i haven't used mx with systemd in some time. i don't recall if journalctl needs sudo or not.

The latest 6.11-8 Liquorix kernel in MX 23 AHS fixes some Bluetooth issues that 6.11-7 had.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Looking for any Bluetooth adapters actually any item to work on Linux I was given a bit of advice that has served me well, many years ago
If it's compatible with Windows XP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 that should work without problems,
the only compatible with Win10 / Win11 mm avoid buying that item if possible,
A BSD user gave me that advice and that has help me with getting trouble free items.
Hopefully helps.
