That's too vague of a description. What is the exact model designation? It will be printed on the underside and you might need a magnifying glass to read it.
N16P9 is the model on the bottom
That's incomplete. The main model designation is missing as Acer has made a number of laptop models:
-- Aspire 1,3, and 5
-- Spin 1, 3, and 5
-- Nitro
-- Predator
-- etc
So your laptop is an Acer ????? N16P9
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Okay, I didn't realize I needed that. It's an ACER spin 3 N16P9

You should read this:

The gist is that you may have problems post install with the touchpad and WiFi card. When you boot into a live session, take the time to be sure that both are working properly or that you can use a mouse in lieu of the touchpad before you click on the Install icon.

If this is so, this thing maybe heading to the trash.

I was going to suggest WoeUSB-ng but it will not install under MX23.4 with unmet dep's libwxgtk2.8 or 3.0 dev packages. I'm sure you can get it to boot to a bootable flash but you may not have created one correctly just yet. Try using a snapshot iso (bootable usb) from your current MX device instead of the std iso (bootable usb). I used my laptop's snapshot iso to overwrite a minisforums minipc running windows10 successfully. Saved me a lot of time in the initial configuration and since I used the exact same passwords I didn't have to learn new ones either. Snapshot is better than sliced bread.

Also depending on how current or 'up-to-date' her pc was will be a factor. A Win10 machine is much easier to use, or bypass, than would be a win11 one. MS just keeps removing control away from the user every next update, just like google does. intentionally

If your running MX21.x you should be able to install woeusb-ng with a couple simple cmds:

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
sudo apt install git p7zip-full python3-pip python3-wxgtk4.0
sudo pip3 install WoeUSB-ng
Sys76 LemurPro-mx-23.4, EliteMinis HM90-mx-21.3, Deskmini UM350-phoenixLite win10, Qnap 12tb nas, Protectli FW4C-opnsense(=゜ω゜)

zero privacy = zero security . All MX'd Up
UAP = up above people

That reddit report is 7 months old and a lot can change in seven months. I think that you should download the latest snapshot from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-lin ... Snapshots/
write it to a USB drive and test it in a live session on the Spin 3. If WiFi works along with a mouse and / or the touchpad, go ahead and install. If WiFi fails but a pointing device works, I would still install because a USB WiFi dongle is easy to acquire.

I recently had the same issue with a Lenovo Ideapad 130. It was solved by using fehlix's first suggestion to create the usb using GPT :

Forget that about woeusb. That's for creating a bootable to windows iso ON a linux pc. Not for creating a bootable linux iso at all. Mixed up, oops. Mx has me all mx'd up. that would be a tshirt I'd wear. "All MX'd UP"

Okay, I've been thinking about this the last couple days. Right now I have the hard drive connected to my daily driver box via a USB to SATA and IDE converter. And I have a screen shot of the gparted look of the hard drive. However, I cannot get the screenshot on here. I saved it as a png image (the only way it would allow me to save it). Tried saving a jpeg image but it says something like format is wrong. Oh well, I don't really know if it would be of help anyway.
