CharlesV wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 1:14 am SO, I have a stable and fast moving MXImagine working on xfce without issue. ( Still need more testing, but working on five machines .)

AND on a KDE MX23 ( MX-23_KDE_x64 Libretto July 31 2023 base )

However, the minute I load the 410+ updates.. I get an unstable system ** regardless ** of what splash I use. ( Even spinner! ) If I dont run a splash then it all works fine. ( This is on two of four test KDE systems - the other two run just fine. )

I have backed up, and installed just the mesa and plymouth init update and also works without an issue... so now I am applying the Plasma updates and a few other apps and will keep testing.

Something in the updated files is causing issues with any splash on my test system. And, I am now seeing the blinking cursor at the left top when it goes south on me. ( been seeing this in the forum recently, so something recent is cause on *some* machines)
did that include the ahs-staging mesa updates, or just the standard repos (ahs, but not ahs-staging for KDE).

maybe I should try just changing the splash, without MXImagine, for another set of data points.

Shutdown animation is too long I think.
Many user needs speedy shutdown, In past case MXLive, I reduce pictures to half.

At this time, 2x speed reverse animation probably can realize at this method...

On file manger "reduce pictures to half" and at coding, shutdown total processing time set to half.
I am working at speeding it up.. I found an issue on the version you have.. the latest is WAY speedier :-)

Strictly the standard repos.

In the latest liqourix, 6.10.12-1, I noticed the 'coming-out-of-hibernation' animation has been completely removed which btw seems to make it boot faster, as least perceptually. I'm good with that.

Well... supposedly... plymouth (the animation at startup and shutdown), is supposed to get out of the way as soon as the OS signals and at no time should the OS wait for it.

However, my understanding of that hand off is ... depending upon what DE your running it could wait for plymouth to exit before doing anything.

I have been working on both the new MXImagine and the current MX Live Logo to make sure they get the heck out of the way as soon as possible. (Still a couple of issues on the MXImagine released a few days ago though.. working that now.)

I changed the MXLiveLogo animation to the percentage one and suddenly had problems rebooting and it not wanting to either show me a display, or, throw an error message (I did not record) and not want to boot. Back on 6.10.11-2 and suddenly realized I had zero battery, and, after booting my mouse was working upside down lol. Back to the LiveLogo and the white circle of unhibernator mode. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in. This OS with the latest clonezilla iso is da bomb. :bagoverhead:
I must say the most interesting thing was restoring my hibernated image, booting to it obviously -unbooting?, and then seeing a previous backup image folder that I knew I deleted. No wonder my mouse flipped it's lid. Even though I deleted it I was able to copy it to my exfat portable nvme and use it to go back to 6.10.11-2 which apparently is slightly better at booting than 6.10.12-1. Don't mean to sidetrack the animation thread.

Introducing another variation of MX boot animation ... MX Into Focus
( Not sure why the smaller gif here is low quality, click on it to see the higher quality and what the actual animation looks like )

Half way through this gif, the startup turns to the shutdown animation.

You can download the boot animation and put into place from here:

Thanks Charles. I reinstalled kernel 6.10.12-1 but edited boot to nosplash for the 1st time ever as I was getting the cursor only a couple days ago. Is it just me or does it seem like booting is a tad quicker without the splash? I actually never knew you could, or should, shut it off. "In Focus" is kinda nice . What about different colors, or is that simply more time consuming?
