MX Wfi connection problem (solved)

#1 Post by rc racer »

I have just prescribed to bright speed internet fiber optic (connection Wi-fi) all the devices such as phone, tablet, TV are connecting but my PC which uses MX Network configuration will not connect no matter what I try to do. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I might be doing wrong and how I can get connected?

I'm using that same card in my HP 17 laptop:

Code: Select all

Device-2: Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter vendor: Hewlett-Packard
    driver: rtw_8821ce v: N/A modules: rtw88_8821ce,wl,rtl8821ce pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s
    lanes: 1 port: e000 bus-ID: 02:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:c821 class-ID: 0280
  IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter>
The difference is that I am using the Liquorix 6.6.12-1 kernel. Liquorix kernels are known to fix a lot of wifi problems in AMD systems that are present with the stock Debian ones. You can install a Liquorix kernel via MXPI.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I do not no what MXPI means. Could you tell me how I can install Liquorix 6.6.12-1 kernel via MXPI.

I'm pretty sure you would have to update to the rtl8821ce-dkms package in AHS to have it build to a driver on that kernel.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

From the main MX Menu, run MX Package Installer (MXPI ) and then type in the search field liquorix.

You should see a list of several Liquorix kernels, and I would agree with J2mcgreg that trying out a 6.6.12 kernel would be good. Check the box on that kernel, then the install button.

If it does fail to install, then please post the error message. You may have to remove or work with your network adapters a little as Stevo mentioned... but it should be fairly simple. Try the install first and post if it fails.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Had the PC shop upgrade to MX 23 and upgrade network drivers. I am so glad to continue to use MX.
