MX Linux GNOME Remix released

#1 Post by Joseph DeGarmo »

MX Linux GNOME Remix is a new respin of MX Linux 23.3, an unofficial respin using systemd. It replaces the XFCE desktop with the GNOME desktop. It provides a macOS-like look and feel with an emphasis on simplicity and HiDPI display compatibility. The desktop background was created by myself using a non-licensed HiDPI image.

The package set features the basic applications created for GNOME as well as the Firefox web browser to keep the experience simple and familiar. This includes gThumb for viewing and choosing desktop backgrounds created for this project as well as a few extensions like a clipboard manager and customization options for the desktop theme. More extensions are available from the web by adding the GNOME Shell Extensions browser extension. Neofetch has been replaced with fastfetch.

This project is a community respin which is not endorsed by MX Linux and therefore, the MX Linux development team will not provide support for it. This respin is as is; use at your own risk. But feel free to report bugs and apply fixes to the build as you see fit. Please enjoy and provide feedback for this project.

I agree, Thank you for sharing. :)
Planning to make a snapshot. Where do I add this? I do not see this in the options when using the tool?
When creating a snapshot ISO of your running system, the following GRUB boot parameter is required:
init=/lib/systemd/systemd

You probably need to eliminate the "MX" from the name, in order to forestall any chance of mistaking the release as "official" from the MX team.

Just changing it to MiX, or MaX, would be enough.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing

Hello,
Thanks for this respin, it was something I have long hoped for :happy: .
I have installed it on my Acer laptop and after a day it seems to work fine. I think I will keep it.
A "problem" that I have so far, is that in Nautilus file manager I see no thumbnails of JPG and PNG files. There is not such a problem with AVIF images though...
Are you aware of this? Have you found a solution maybe?
Thanks in advance.
