not updating after 10 months in storage

#1 Post by xendistar »

I have an old IBM Thinkpad (20+ years) that I have not used for a while. I am intending to use it shortly while I am traveling but it will not update.

When I try to update I get the following error:

Code: Select all

E: Release file for http://security.debian.org/dists/bookworm-security/InRelease is not valid yet (invalid for another 38min 25s). Updates for this repository will not be applied.
W: An error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: https://mxlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/packages/antix/bookworm bookworm InRelease: The following signatures were invalid: EXPKEYSIG DB36CDF3452F0C20 antiX Linux repo <repo@antixlinux.com>
N: Repository 'http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian bookworm InRelease' changed its 'Version' value from '12.5' to '12.7'
I have seen the message on the Antixforum.com page under urgent, I tried option 1 and that failed, I am unable to run option 2 as it seems I have forgotten the SU password.

Can anybody help resolving the issue please?

Your clock has lost its setting.
Use MX Date & Time -> Network time (tab) -> Update now to set it.

If you haven't replaced the Thinkpad's CMOS battery recently, now would be a good time.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Thanks for spotting the time was out timkb4cq, it was only an hour out it had not picked up the BST time change in the UK.

Code: Select all

mit@NX51:~
$ sudo hwclock --show
2024-09-14 19:18:58.149813+01:00
I will keep an eye on the time to see if it continue to loose the time j2mcgreg,

Having corrected the time I was able to update, but I am still getting a error:

Code: Select all

W: An error occurred during the signature verification. The repository is not updated and the previous index files will be used. GPG error: https://mxlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/packages/antix/bookworm bookworm InRelease: The following signatures were invalid: EXPKEYSIG DB36CDF3452F0C20 antiX Linux repo <repo@antixlinux.com>
W: Failed to fetch http://mxlinux.mirrors.uk2.net/packages/antix/bookworm/dists/bookworm/InRelease The following signatures were invalid: EXPKEYSIG DB36CDF3452F0C20 antiX Linux repo <repo@antixlinux.com>
W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Any thoughts

I had tried to run the AntiX update but it failed but that could of been the the issue with the time setting. Just run iot again and it seems to have worked, now updating some antiX files

Thanks for the help all

It looks like the driver for realtek 8821cu chipsets won't build on the 5.10 i486 antiX kernel.
You didn't include your Network info so I don't know whether or not you need that driver. If you don't, then just remove the rtl8821cu-dkms package.

Solved: Re: not updating after 10 months in storage

#10 Post by xendistar »

I thought it was inclued in the earlier inxi file I posted. The network connector are both Intel:

Code: Select all

inxi -N
Network:
  Device-1: Intel 82540EP Gigabit Ethernet driver: e1000
  Device-2: Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network driver: ipw2200
So I have deleted reference to realtek 8821 and now when

Code: Select all

I run sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
I do not get an errors.

Thanks all for the help
