If you don't like the desktop, you can always install other DEs on AVL.
sorry, I don't get it. You mean using AVL instead of MX? Does AVL offer newer software compared to MX?
It's tuned for multimedia creation out of the box.

You mentioned updating to a newer kernel than the stock Debian one, for instance. It's acknowledged that the Debian kernel is not suited for that kind of job, since it needs low latency, and that kernel is more configured for server use. Debian does offer a realtime alternative kernel, but that comes with its own set of "gotchas". AVL ships instead a quite recent low-latency Liquorix kernel, which pretty much solves the gotchas. And that's just one point.
Ok, I see. I'm aware of AV Linux and I tested it awhile ago. I'm mostly working "in the box", so I don't need super low latencies. I also ran into some issues with Enlightenment, that were never present with XFCE. But I will check it on my new PC how it runs. Otherwise UbuntuStudio is also fine.

That makes no sense to charge more for a lower watt APU. Typical AMD pricing.

Look at the depth of the boxes in the image. One is likely packaged with a heatsink and cooling fan and the other is just the CPU.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I just looked at the specs on AMD's web site. They are charging $70 for the included Wraith air cooler on that 7700 CPU. :eek:

7700X: Recommended Cooler = Premium air cooler recommended for optimal performance
7700: Thermal Solution (PIB) = AMD Wraith Prism

If you install a newer kernel, I would suggest using Liquorix anyway. We port it over for our AHS repositories.
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
