Problem in Dell All in one Optiplex and Mx 23

#1 Post by IoannisTsoulos »

The OptiPlex 5480 AIO with Mx 23.3 seems to have some problems with the graphics card.
Sometimes after some minutes of inactivity the screen goes black and remains black and I should make a manual restart
here is the information of the system

I have never used a screen blanker since I bought my laptop, but, mx23 defaults to a screen off state after a few minutes, which I really don't mind on my laptop and so I haven't bothered to shut it off. Sounds like your screen is set to blank after a few and it never wakes back up. Have you tried doing it manually and not letting it timeout by itself to see what happens? I just switched it off but had to enable it first to do so which in and of itself makes no sense. IOW, 'display power mngmnt' was off but enabled and to disable it I had to turn it on first. Kinda strange behavior.

Yes but it did not wake up.
I believe that is a problem with the dpms but I do not know how to solve it

I suspect that your problem lies with a screen saver that needs to be configured and / or removed from your system.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

There is one option to use either the intel/nvidia drivers or the modesetting ones in tweak other. Both should give a working display.

If it was a driver issue, the graphics card would only work partially or not at all. Instead, you have a 'wake up' problem which points to the screen saver or power manager as the culprit.

Tell me about it. I just tried installing the latest official Intel drivers. They use ubuntu repos so I learned the hard way about linux graphics drivers. Newer is definitely not always better lol.

I guess hitting the space bar and logging back in has not been tried yet? :tumbleweed:

The problem "solved" by disabling the sleep mode in the monitor.
Of course, this is not a viable solution
