Screen resolution wrong in live USB from snapshot

#1 Post by ornithorhynchus »

Hello again people.

I've taken a snapshot of my system and created a live USB from it.

The screen resolution in the live system isn't right. My monitor is 1920x1080 and the live system looks to currently allow only 1280x800. My MX system from which the snapshot was taken gives me the required resolution, 1920x1080.

Here's the message I get when I hover over the ? to the right of Resolution in Settings in the live system:

Image

Here's the output from xrandr in the live system:

Code: Select all

xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 800, current 1280 x 800, maximum 1280 x 800
default connected primary 1280x800+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1280x800 76.00*
And here's the quick system info from the live USB system:

Code: Select all

I don't know how to correct the display, so I'd appreciate any help in getting it right (1920x1080).

I see the last line in the quick system info says there's no kernel video driver. But there are no problems with the screen resolution in the MX system from which I took the snapshot. And I see the quick system info from that system doesn't say that there's "No kernel video driver'. In case it's relevant, here's the quick system info from the MX23 system from which I took the snapshot:

I've searched for help here on this forum and found two threads that look as if they might be close to what I need. But I don't know how to apply them to the situation I find.

viewtopic.php?p=763410&hilit=screen+res ... 6b#p763410

viewtopic.php?t=74402&hilit=screen+reso ... b7cdb4436b

Thanks heaps.

Cheers.

Re: Screen resolution wrong in live USB from snapshot  [Solved]

#2 Post by ornithorhynchus »

Hi again people,

I've spent some time studying the threads linked to above.

@Eadwine Rose from first thread and @Huckleberry in the second thread:

I had no success with trying the code "xorg=nvidia" on the first boot screen of the live USB. I tried it in several places on the other screens you can adjust from the boot screen, with no luck either.

So I looked to see if it would work elsewhere. Here's what did eventually work:

On the first screen you get when you open MX Snapshot, in the bottom left-hand corner there's a line for Boot options. To this line I added "xorg=nvidia". Then, after creating the snapshot and using MX Live USB Maker, the live USB booted up as required: resolution 1920x1080.

Image

So while no one's yet replied to my particular post above, I've used input from several others in the threads above to solve the problem.

So, again, thanks to all.

Cheers.
