Recomendations for blue light filter
Recomendations for blue light filter
Is anyone using a blue light filter on their XFCE machines that they can recommend?

redshift, f.lux, or in a pinch xrandr with the --brightness flag can still work wonders.Shifu wrote: Fri May 24, 2024 12:14 am Is anyone using a blue light filter on their XFCE machines that they can recommend?
Re: Recomendations for blue light filter
I've been using Redshift since the beginning of my Linux adventure and I can't recommend it more.

Thanks everyone, I got redshift working once I found out where to put the lat/long!

Re: Recomendations for blue light filter
German ophthalmologists STRONGLY advise against blue light filters in spectacles, as they are useless and the possible long-term effects of hours of daily use by screen workers have not yet been clarified.
There is even a voluntary commitment by German ophthalmologists not to prescribe glasses with blue light filters.
On the website of the internationally recognized institution Cochrane https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/do ... b2/full/de
you can find a summary of the studies in English.
Does no good and is probably a waste of money

Re: Recomendations for blue light filter
Light itself, ie sunlight, is good for your eyes. Radiation such as that which a screen delivers is not. The study refers specifically to "lenses", ie sunglasses. My take is specifically that when outdoors in the daytime it is actually better to never wear sunglasses unless skiing, on the water, or in a condition that may generally warrant it. Sunglasses can give the eye 'relief'. Computers are not comparable to natural light which I believe the study above was specifically referring to. As well, imo, the only conclusion made was the same as mine. Light is good for your eyes. Blocking it is not. Actually the conclusion was they need more people to wear the 'lenses' longer in order to actually have an opinion. lmao
As for an actual pc bluelight filter? I'm still using the fluxgui install script and redshift itself. I only turn it off if I'm watching a movie or whatever. Radiation bad, filter good.
