1) Are there any benefits to using the Intel driver with X11 on an Intel platform, vs using the default Modesetting driver?
2) If MX (21.3) is configured to use the Intel driver instead of the Modesetting driver, will a Live distro made from a snapshot with such settings still boot and run on a non-Intel platform?
3) Any potential problems with changing to the Intel in Tweak, such as the system not booting afterwards?
Thanks.
Intel driver vs Modesetting driver with X11?
Re: Intel driver vs Modesetting driver with X11?
1) "Sometimes" , on different cases, not always.
2) They are (conf files) excluded by default in the exclusion file, so the correct drivers will be picked on the booted pc, it won't do any harm.
3) (Black screen etc.) : "Maybe", or rarely, not always .

For some Intel GPUs, the modesetting driver may show video tearing that the "intel" driver can eliminate with the "TearFree" option.
And some apps that run fine with modesetting will not run at all on "intel"; a prime example is Google Earth.
