AMD is my choice, as long as it is their CPU/GPU.
If you are going to do Virtual Machine code (different OS in VM) you might want to see what your VM uses as a code base. If it is Intel-based, then there is the answer.
So it really depends on what you are going to do. I wish it were more concise, but there it is......

@j2mcgreg Agree about the keyboard. I'd always worked with a dedicated number pad so my laptop selection was made accordingly. The latest model (a small Latitude) has no number pad and worse, "home" and "end" are accessed using the "fn" function key in combination with "arrow left & right" keys at the bottom left of the keyboard. Not sure I'll ever get accustomed to this.

The only thing that makes the laptops nice that don't have a numpad is they are usually the lightest in weight. But I think they should all have numpads regardless, and a 2.5GbE rj45 port.
