Re: New to MX Linux

I am looking to purchase a Thinkpad Carbon X1 Gen 6, Windows 10 Laptop, i5 8250 CPU, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD. For the sole purpose of running MX Linux on it. Can anyone advise me, what would be the best version of MX Linux to install on this laptop? And can any one advise me on the process of doing the install or offer any assistance, step by step guides or tutorials or video links are all welcome. Thank you. Jamma

Just: In case you decide to keep Windows: Do the shrinking of Windows (to open some space) using its tool (when booted to Windows), not with GParted etc. That way it won't complain or display errors etc...

What Linux experience, if any, do you already have?
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

I am still a novice really. I had Linux Mint before. I understand if I need to get someone tech savvy on board, I will do so. I probably won't keep Windows on the laptop, it really depends on the complications etc. I really just want MX Linux installed. That would be my main objective really. Thanks Jamma.

Then if you like you can select auto-installation and it'll wipe the disk first then do all what's needed for you (partitioning , too).

For new (most recent) hardware AHS release may be better but you can first boot and try on live session, the regular MX, AHS or whichever you like most.. If everything's ok on live session, then it's ok ...

I suggest that you read our manual (which can be downloaded at the top of this page), starting at Section #2. Our team has taken great care to make it readable and understandable by novices like yourself. Any questions you have remaining can be posted here and remember that there are no stupid questions.
