Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Yes, that is true..
However Enlightenment requires it's setup "wizard" code to be rewritten for custom purposes and that is not an avenue I'm going to take, I'd rather continue to polish the default presentation because AVL requires a LOT of specialized settings in Enlightenment.

german keyboard layout Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
I choosed a german keyboard layout on installation, but got an en-US layout.AVLinux wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 6:57 pm I would like to update the ISO to smooth out some issues that have presented themselves since the initial release, this will also align with the recent MX-23.2 update. From reports in various places it appears the biggest hurdles to fix have been:
- Finding and changing the Keyboard layout for non-English Users has been too difficult..
...
* It is strongly suggested to boot Enlightenment with systemd once installed because it is developed primarily for systemd usage which improves the backlight issue.
...
- Installing new locales is not very clear (MX released a locale tool a week after AVL was released)
Then I tried setxkbmap de and mx-locale for to change the layout to no avail.
Question: what could I try else?
I assume that my problem is not related to systemd or is it?
Re: german keyboard layout Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Yes, this is a big point of confusion.. Enlightenment itself needs the keyboard layout set in addition to the regular system keyboard settings. According to another German User viewtopic.php?t=79426 you will need to add the German layout and then remove the US English layout

Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
I'm still looking for my wi-fi issue. For me that's been a hiccup. But I'm still testing recording this week. I'm an audio guy having used mac and windows for the work. If I were to say something would be nice to have for me would be clearer wi-fi troubleshooting. The connman explanation in the upper left corner did not do it for me. One thing that I like in all of my computers is an office suite. Particularly word processing and spreadsheet. I've used LibreOffice since StarOffice 5.2. But I would be okay with Abiword and Gnumeric for no more than I do. I like having somewhere for notes and time. On Linux I use Evolution over Thunderbird for a mail client, but I would be good with either one. If that could be included as part of the initial install, that would be great.
Re: german keyboard layout Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Thanks. This additional step solved the problem.
Another problem I found with wine is this:
Unlike in MX 23.2 wine exits from Word 2003 (or Excel 2003) in AV Linux 23.1 with an error saying something like "Word (or Excel) was terminated unexpectedly".
What could possibly be the cause?
Re: german keyboard layout Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Do you have the same version of Wine on both systems? Or is one system using Wine from MX Test? I simply install whatever version of Wine-Staging that MX regular Repo provides and I only test it with Windows VST Audio Plugins and no other Windows applications.
Do you have Wine configured for the same version of Windows on both systems?

Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
I don't follow AV Linux that much but here's some food for thought:
If you make breaking UI changes like changing the desktop environment, I would suggest doing it in a major release rather than a minor one (eg. 23 to 24, not 23.1 to 23.2). A minor release implies that the UI should be more or less the same, just a few features (maybe) and a whole lotta bug fixes. Then again, this is why I hate date-based versioning, and semantic versioning is better.
Also was much warning given before the changes? Users hate their things changing for no apparent reason.
I do notice the installer says "MX Linux" on it. You could change the name to "AV Linux" if you are so inclined in the installer.conf file (disclaimer: this is a technical suggestion only, not official advice, endorsement, comment, request, suggestion, or any such similar communication from, or representing, MX Linux), there are a bunch of things that can be customised also.

Hi @AK-47 , thanks for all of your hard work on MX and the installer!AK-47 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 10:17 am I don't follow AV Linux that much but here's some food for thought:

To be clear as I explained in the first post (I don't want to come across as sounding snarky) I did not change DE's with a major release, I waited until Bookworm and MX-23 was released and during the time of Bullseye/MX-21 I even took time to release an in-development version of the next AV Linux with the new DE so people could even get acquainted and try it out before the next major release.. The new DE should not have been a surprise to anyone paying attention.. This thread is not about changing the DE now in midstream (it was already changed on the first MX 23-based ISO release), it's about improving some things on an updated ISO to make things smoother because I couldn't foresee every potential issue with my limited hardware nor could I test other languages/locales very effectively until AVL 23 was out in the wild..
Thanks for the notes about the Installer conf. I'm very grateful to be using MX after many years in the Debian+ 3rd party Installer wilderness, the "AV Linux MX Edition" in the name since I arrived here makes no secret of the fact that what little I'm doing is on the big shoulders of MX (and antiX) I feel no need to mask the identity of MX or it's Installer although I have modified the MX-Welcome greeter to me more specific about AVL it's still called "MX-Welcome". You and the team deserve the credit and exposure for what you're doing and I'm a super-fan myself so I don't need or want to conceal the source of the wheels and chassis..
Re: german keyboard layout Re: Proposed updated AV Linux 23.2 ISO - Improvements?
Same version of wine and same version of Windows on both systems.
But will test it again from a pristine install when I am back from a trip.
