#1 Post by jarkky »

Attached is the nvidia-installer.log or the last 50 lines of it.
I can't get the installation working.

the installer log posted does not appear to be the entire log. I presume this is from nvidia's installer tool, because its not from our package based ddm-mx tool.

however, it likely just means nouveau was loaded at the time of the build, and reboot will clear that up. either than, or the nvidia tool will need to be run with nouveau unloaded.

Plus it's an Optimus laptop, with all that entails.

Would suggest that the Nvidia 535 driver installed from the .run file be removed, and then the MX Nvidia Installer tool be used. Installing and running "nvidia-installer-cleanup" can be used to remove the 535 files first.

Furthermore using the nvidia-installer .run file to install a new version of the drivers is prevented as long as this package is installed.

How to run this "nvidia-installer-cleanup" ?

Code: Select all

nvidia-installer-cleanup is already the newest version (20220217+3~deb12u1).
$ nvidia-installer-cleanup
nvidia-installer-cleanup: command not found

Code: Select all

$ nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.
I had installed the driver from mx-tools menu, but still after rebooting I get below messages:

Code: Select all

$ nvidia-detect
Detected NVIDIA GPUs:
02:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GP108M [GeForce MX250] [10de:1d13] (rev a1)

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GP108M [GeForce MX250] (rev a1)
Your card is supported by all driver versions.
Your card is also supported by the Tesla drivers series.
Your card is also supported by the Tesla 470 drivers series.
It is recommended to install the
    nvidia-driver
package.

I get the same message with nvidia-detect.

Code: Select all

$ nvidia-detect
Detected NVIDIA GPUs:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] [10de:1c03] (rev a1)

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] (rev a1)
Your card is supported by all driver versions.
Your card is also supported by the Tesla drivers series.
Your card is also supported by the Tesla 470 drivers series.
It is recommended to install the
    nvidia-driver
package.
But when I do sudo nvidia-settings
nvidia-settings.png
my nvidia driver is installed and working. So, I don't know if yours is, but don't worry about that message from nvidia-detect.

No idea what to do... The logs seem not that useful.

OK, have you read the MX wiki about how to have apps use the Nvidia card on an Optimus system? tl;dr: just precede the command with nvidia-run-mx

Just to see if it's working, try in a terminal:

Code: Select all

nvidia-run-mx inxi -G
MXPI = MX Package Installer
QSI = Quick System Info from menu
The MX Test repository is mostly backports; not the same as Debian testing
