LibreOffice menus icons not displaying

#1 Post by deanr72 »

As can be seen below, when starting LibreOffice or when changing between tabs, all or most of the icons do not display. It's the same on all of my mx installs. Is this a LO issue or something with my settings/libraries, etc?

As I rely on LO for my job, this is quite frustrating, although I can get the icons to appear by either waving the mouse pointer over the blank space or hitting the arrows to the right of the missing icons. Any help, please?

Have you tried going into MX Package Installer and locating your Libre Office?

Once located check the box next to your version (already has ONE check). Now two in the same row are checked. Click Reinstall.

Thanks for the suggestion @FullScale4Me , but it didn't make any difference. Even after a reboot 9_9

This sounds like the base icons or icon cache is bad.. ( Waiving the mouse over them would trigger "hover icons" which are different icons. A few things you might try:

Go into LibreOffice Tools | Options | View and try changing both the appearance and then Icon theme.

And I have seen the system icon set change the LIibreOffice icons too (although it is not supposed too.) .. so you might try changing your system icon set too.

You can try renaming your ~/.config/libreoffice folder to something else, then starting libreoffice. This WILL loose all of your libreofice settings, but you can put them all back if it doesnt resolve the issue by putting that older folder back into place.

Failing all of that, what version of libreoffice are you running?

Longshot
Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View

The problem is selecting large icon size. Change it auto. My icons came back.
EDIT From your screenshot, it doesn't appear to be the issue here, but did you by chance recently change to a dark theme?

Thanks again for the replies thus far. Still no joy, however.

I've tried changing icon styles on LO, icon size (auto, small, large makes no difference), changed my default icon theme... Nada.

LO version 7.4.7.2 from the mx Popular Applications. Guess I could download and install the latest .deb from the website?? Thoughts on trying that?

BTW, @MXRobo , I've seen that thread. I looked all over for a solution before posting here and couldn't find anything that worked for me and nothing suggesting this is a common LO bug.

How about as a another, new, different user and logging into that just to see any changes ? _ _ _ and while we are at it how does LO function on the live MXL ?

Thanks again for your responses.

I'll mark the post as solved. What I actually did was download the Flatpak version of LO (Version 24.2.1.2) to see if the problem persisted. Not only does the Flatpak version of LO work fine but the standard version is now also showing icons as it should. Don't ask me why or how (feel free to add ideas if you know) but certainly for now I'll leave both versions installed and keep my fingers crossed I won't need to seek help again regarding this issue again.

Interesting. I loaded up the LO 24.2.03 on my machine and have been very happy with it so far. it DOES create an entire new config folder, and does work a little differently in the way it works. There are also two methods to work the graphics too. 1) Using hardware acceleration (possibly this is a problem here?) and 2) Specialized java method!
