AV-Linux-E (Enlightenment)

#1 Post by pksings2021 »

I installed this last night and am unable to get it to a usable state. I can find no provision for setting a static IP or for that matter any changes such as packet sizing. Only automatic DHCP.
I had to add programs to get it to recognize my second monitor that are not included.
The GUI is very attractive. It is not as well integrated with MX tools as it's previous versions. Numerous things don't work or are just not there.
It is obvious a lot of work was put into the new version, thank you. As you did with the previous versions I'm sure it will get better with time, and eventually be a very well tuned system.
But for me, right now, it is not usable. The learning curve is just too steep. I have reverted to the previous version, which I love and am very grateful to you for making.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you are not enjoying the new version, there certainly are some changes and a learning curve and as I said in the other thread I'm still gathering info from Users on what issues are encountered. I switched to Enlightenment about a year and a half before I moved AV Linux to it and it is my daily driver for both development and production so I'm not expecting folks to put up with something that I don't use myself..

As far as setting a static IP that is a good point, Enlightenment uses Connman instead of Gnome Network Manager and Enlightenment provides a very simple frontend to get connected but not much else, however there are other UI's installable for in-depth network settings with Connman.

cmst is probably the best one:

As far as things that are not working or missing I would value some more detailed information about that to see if these are actual bugs or simply implementations that differ from XFCE4..

Thanks!

I kinda had a similar problem as well. Enlightenment ran from the USB drive just fine over a couple of weeks.
So, I decided to give it a full install on my old 2009 MacBook Pro test laptop. It installed without a hitch.
I installed a number of my commonly used apps; (Bitwig, Reaper). Everything seemed fine. But, when I rebooted or restarted
the laptop, the screen would go black during the boot, and never come back. So, I too, have gone back to
AVL-MXE 21.3, which runs like a champ as a daily driver. I'd like to give Enlightenment a go again. I really enjoyed tinkering with it,
but I guess I'll wait until I can learn how to fix the boot problem. Any suggestions as to what that boot issue could be? Thanks.

@GB71

There is a known backlight issue with some computers that Enlightenment resets backlight to 0 and when you boot into the Login screen it is dark, if you use MX-Tools--->Boot Options and select systemd boot it should (mostly) fix the issue:

Thanks, Glen. I'll most definitely give Enlightenment another whirl. Cheers.
