I'm using version 23.2 of MX.
I'd like to install the Linux-friendly Frigate security camera app.
Due to the relative complexity of the install - someone wrote an install script for Ubuntu.
Is it hard to port something like that to MX?
His script is here:
https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frig ... sions/9208
The Frigate home page is here:
https://docs.frigate.video/
They're in the midst of a major rewrite but the main developer said to install the current version - then run an upgrade when the new version is released this Summer.
I know everyone is busy and this may or may not be of interest to many others (though the surging sales of security systems may suggest a growing interest).
If porting the install isn't of interest - I'll begin the manual install today ... thanks for all y'all do!
Can an Ubuntu install script be ported to MX Linux?

The script doesn't look too problematic, except where it asks about the standard or the beta version.
You need to keep in mind that we're running Debian Stable so using the latest Frigate will likely just not be possible ( I haven't checked diffs between the Debian versions of Frigate)
Why not go ahead and try the install on a Live USB session. If it all goes pear shaped, when running live, you only need to shut down and there'll be no ill effects.
You will need a decent amount of RAM though and I would opt to ensure a little more SWAP is available in case you run out of your RAM by inserting an external drive with a swap partition measuring 8GB on it. A Flash drive with SWAP will be terrible unless you have an Extrenal SSD type, an external HDD will be slow but not intolerable, but if you hit the proverbial wall at the end of your available RAM, it could serve as a get out of jail free card if the container is more than your RAM can handle.
What we don't know is whether frigate will start and run containerised in a SysVinit setup, however, if it all works, you can go ahead and run the MX Installer and all the system changes will be integreated in the fresh install, though no user data from demo's home, so watch for that one.

Re: Can an Ubuntu install script be ported to MX Linux?
Those are exactly the things I needed to know!
I've just asked about SysVinit in the Frigate GitHub discussion area.
If they say it's a go - I'll attach an outboard SSD as Swap and give it a try.
Thanks!

Still waiting for a reply ...
Meanwhile, I may just take a run at it.
Is there any likely difference between openssh-server and task-ssh-server in this application, please?
Thanks!

Re: Can an Ubuntu install script be ported to MX Linux?
You're going to have to provide some context for that question, as "task-ssh-server" doesn't seem to appear anywhere in the script you've linked. "openssh-server" is a common Debian package for installing, you guessed it, an OpenSSH server.kd4e wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 11:01 pm Still waiting for a reply ...

Re: Can an Ubuntu install script be ported to MX Linux?
In Step #2 it reads "Select installation of SSH Server during the Ubuntu installation Wizard."
Since I'm going to try this in MX Linux I want to choose the ssh server with the greatest probability of playing nicely with Frigate.
It sounds like openssh-server is the one ...
Thanks!

"task-ssh-server" may be too purpose-limited."openssh-server" is a common Debian package for installing, you guessed it, an OpenSSH server.
Thanks!

NOTE: I went ahead and started a MX Linux install ...
Install appears to have been successful.
